A new graffiti artwork has appeared in Shrewsbury, Darwin inspired 😀

Excited to see that we’ve had a visit during the night! Come and see the cool ‘guerilla art’ that has appeared on the walls of the market hall building overnight.

Located in the market hall’s undercroft entrance, between Shoplatch and Claremont Street, it’s the work of the street artist known as Disney, dubbed the ‘Birmingham Banksy’.

His street chimpanzee plays on Shrewsbury’s historical connection with Charles Darwin and for this stencil graffiti artwork he’s signed off as ‘Darwisney’. He has called the work ‘the evolution of the monkey’.

The artist dropped by because of the Shrewsbury Arts Trail that includes famous Dali sculptures and art exhibitions at venues across the town this summer.

Arts Trail exhibitions are being held at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery and venues including the new Viewing Deck here at the market hall. Carved by Peter Hollins of Birmingham in 1846, Sabrina Goddess of the Severn was donated by The Earl of Bradford to the people of Shrewsbury in 1879, and is inscribed with the following:

Hawkstone Park Follies is an interesting visit when in The Shire

A wonderful view of the 150 step, 100ft tall, spiral stair case column at Hawkstone Park Follies!

The column was erected to commemorate Sir Rowland Hill, the first protestant Lord Mayor of London. On a clear day, visitors can see up to thirteen counties from the top!
