PLEASE READ – UPDATE ON BEHALF OF LOUISE AND MATT
WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP ONE MORE TIME
You have all been more then generous from the beginning of George’s story, but we need to ask you for your help one more time as we now need to get George home.
We wish we were bringing you better news, but unfortunately George’s condition has rapidly declined. Shortly after arriving in LA, he was rushed to hospital and has been in intensive care since. George has extensive swelling on his brain creating a 12mm midline shift. This has meant he is in excruciating pain, causing sickness and for him to collapse.
Yesterday the surgeons at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) operated on George to fit a shunt in an attempt to relieve the pressure in his brain. We hope this will bring him some relief, but a further operation will be needed this week to debulk his tumor. George needs this surgery to be stable enough to fly home.
This is the worst possible scenario for George. It is very unlikely he will be well enough for the Car T Cell trial now and our priority is to get him home as quickly and as safely as possible so that he can be with his Brother, Sister and the rest of the family.
As you can imagine, Louise and Matt are both distraught and broken that George has declined so quickly. They made a pledge to George that they would leave no stone left unturned in their quest to save him. They have been faced with an impossible situation, and this was their final chance. They now find themselves in an extremely vulnerable position on the opposite side of the world, with extensive medical care bills that are stacking up daily at an unbelievable rate. It costs a massive $21,000 per day, for a bed alone, in ICU.
We wish desperately to have been sharing better news right now, we know how invested you all are in George’s journey. We have been inundated with messages of support and well wishes since Louise’s last update.
Please share this latest update and keep George in your thoughts and prayers. He needs us now more than ever.
