Welcome signs of spring abound.

The snowdrops at Gait Barrows are making a good show just now. These delightful flowers are among the first to flower heralding the spring to come. Sheathed in strappy, bright green or greyish leaves, thin stems dangle bell-like white flowers, outer petals flaring to reveal shorter inner ones touched with green. Some have double flowers.

We are opening our bistro on Thursday and Friday evenings from 5.00pm until 8.00pm.

We will initially operate on a “walk in” basis , rather than taking formal bookings. So come along on Thursday or Friday for a warm welcome, and some amazing pizzas in our friendly, cosy Bistro. …..As usual it is BYO.

Salads will also be available as well as Coffee and cakes!

Take Aways can be pre ordered through Messenger or over the counter during opening times.

This area is not as well known as the honeypot areas of the lake district but has so much to offer visitors. And with less crowds.

Our cottage is located within Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve with wonderful walks from the doorstep.

The AONB supports an exceptionally diverse range of habitats of local, national and international importance, creating a mosaic that is home to an outstanding variety of wildlife. Priority habitats cover around 70% of the ANOB including deciduous woodland, wood pasture, reedbeds, coastal saltmarsh and traditional orchards.

We have seen a smaller murmuration over Little Haweswater Lake.

It’s not often you see a ‘whale’ of Leighton Moss! Did it make a big splash over the Bay? No, of course it’s the fabulous starlings up to their air-sculptures. Fantastic photo from Rob Petley-Jones.

Stunning autumn colours. What a wonderful time of year for walks in the woods, mushroom hunting and snuggling up with a cup of tea and a warm blanket to watch the sun go down.

We can't wait for spring in Silverdale. Its a beautiful place to discover the first flowers peeping through.

Someone messaged me about whether we accept dogs. For some reason it would let me reply to you so I hope you see this. We do accept dogs at the cottage but request that you bring covers if you are wanting them on the sofas.
