Just another example of what funds can do. By attending events we put on or putting on events for the charity or donating. It all makes a big difference. The £4200 fees paid off for our 9th season will mean another 60 children can have a visit this year should it fully book up.

Priority given to families with a child in need of adaptations and families with a child that has not yet visited or hasn't visited in the previous season. 👨🦽

Day 2 of the makeover and the new Minnie and Mickey theme at the Matts Mission Children's Charity - Making Smiles Glow Caravan of Courage Rainbow Retreat Matts Mission Children's Charity Adapted Holiday Home Respite. It's been a long day but I'm happy with how it is looking. (Day 1 photos are also on the page post from yesterday if anyone didn't see and wants to)
Finishing touches tomorrow, quotes to put up and themed bedding to put on then it's all good to go ready for the first family coming in at the end of the month. There is still availability throughout the year for any children with a diagnosis of Cancer or Severe disability, we prioritise wheelchair users, Cancer and Paletive Care.

Day 1 Sorting the outside lighting and tidying the garden area, sensory garden sadly had to be put back to grass which was put down a few days back (Council rules) full day on it tomorrow on the inside now and the new Minnie & Mickey theme, will post photos tomorrow. Absolutely gutted to hear from Kiera’s mom this morning to make me aware that Kiera has passed away 😇 Kiera has been with Matts Mission Children's Charity - Making Smiles Glow for many years now and the family involved with the charity and so supportive. Kiera was none verbal but she always spoke with the smile on her face and was always such a happy little girl despite all she went through, a true warrior and inspiration. Sleep tight Kiera, you won’t ever be forgotten 💛

New matresses have gone into the Caravan of Courage today ready for the new season in 2025. The previous ones were from 2017 and some families had unfortunately taken off Protectors and accidents happened so they got stained and needed to be replaced. The new Minnie and Mickey theme will be in place in March as well ready for the 9th season and another 65 families and poorly children to visit. ⛱️

The holiday home is based on Golden Palm Resort you will get WIFI, Bedding, Entertainment passes to Club Tropicana and a full clean before arrival.

2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣ Matts Mission Children's Charity Adapted Holiday Home Respite. Paid off, this means another 65 families will be able to book into the Caravan of Courage Rainbow Retreat for the 9th season from March-November next year.
As well as the £4200 ground fees and insurance and Gas check and other checks, we will be adding lots of new bedding and cutlery and other items like we do at the start of every season.

Golden Palm Resort is where the holiday home is based. Passes are included into the entertainment at Club Tropicana and fresh bedding and clean for each visit. On site swimming facilities, Arcades, Kids Club, Characters and Tributes, Restaurant and Bars, Supermarket and the beach is 15 minutes from the site walking and 5 minutes in the car.

In 2017 I (Matt) went to visit Skegness and I arranged a meeting before visiting and asked to speak about the possibility of purchasing a caravan. Having looked at quite a few vans, none really stood out as they were not adapted.
It was not until I asked to be shown the Holiday Homes that I fell in love with the one that we have, it did not take long for me to step inside and realise that it was the one. the walls had inspirational quotes and the van was open plan and adapted.
That day before leaving I put down a £1000 deposit but only had £10,000 in the bank, realistically it could take a good year to raise the funds considering we are a self funded charity and rely on events and donations, as well as that, we also have wishes to complete through out the year.
Off I went, determined to some how find the £34,000 needed to make the holiday home ours so that the families could start to use it for free respite which they desperately need. The ground fees would also come to £3200 a year plus maintenance and appliances. Was this to be a mission to far?
The answer was no because with in about 7 months, the funds were raised and the Holiday Home was ours. It took hours of standing on collections and putting on events as well as giving up my job in order to raise the funds but thanks to the public and the Mini Missioners involved in our Hair Donations events, this was made possible.
Going down to pay it all off and collect they keys and go inside and start to plan how the inside will be, it really was something I will never forget. It has made such a massive difference in the past two years and we have supported over 60 families with very poorly children so far going into 2020.
As you will see from the name, the adapted holiday home is now known as the Caravan of Courage Rainbow Retreat and the word “Courage” is exactly what the children show when they are going through such tough times with the illnesses and conditions that they have. The “Rainbow” is based on the children that we have sadly lost shinning over the families visiting and protecting the children, the Butterflies also represent the children that have passed so that they are always a part of the Holiday home.
I am really pleased with the inside and the outside of the home now and it is customised through out to make it a real home from home and the feedback from the families really has been over whelming and has made us all very proud. It has a sensory shower room and on suite as well as cinema surround tv and consoles and music and games for the children to enjoy. Central heating through out and an electric fire and double glazing.
The families also get passes to the pool and the club and are close to the lake and beach and on site arcades. The ducks also come to visit every morning so the children get to feed them. We also have amazing people Alison and John that keep it all lovely and clean and meet the families to take them to the van, a massive thank you to them for going above and beyond.
It has been a great two years so far and so many children have been supported, we have sadly lost some after using the Caravan of Courage Rainbow Retreat but they will always be a part of this magical place.
