We're thrilled to be celebrating National Apprenticeship Week, showcasing our fantastic Apprentices and their incredible contributions as they shape their future with skills, dedication and innovation! 😄

Jack is one of our Installation Electrician and Maintenance Electrical Level 3 Apprentices who has been enjoying his hands-on Apprenticeship, earning whilst he works and developing his skills.

Pam, our Health, Safety and Environment Manager said: "We are thrilled to have Jack as an Apprentice at West Lancashire College. However, Jack is more than just an Apprentice, he is part of our community as he works for our Electrical Contractor, Electric-CAL. Jack has been involved in lots of work across our site that has benefitted our students both current and future. The jobs have included the installation of new circuits to our Electronics lab; installation of circuits and equipment in the new catering facilities and upgrading lighting to LED."

The future of the cyber industry is right here in Lancashire! 💻😄

On Tuesday, 50 pupils from local high schools attended a day on our campus where they took part in a variety of Digital workshops led by Jules, Aaron and Baz. It was great to have Scott Mulholland, our NCG Chief Information Digital Officer, attend the workshops too.

Our T Level and BTEC Level 3 Year 1 Digital students had an amazing day at Edge Hill University during the cyber education week, part of the 2025 Lancashire Cyber Festival.

The week’s events – backed by the Lancashire Cyber Partnership – saw our students join over 12,000 young people across Lancashire to discover the exciting world of cyber. The event highlights the county’s once in a generation cyber opportunity brought by the National Cyber Force HQ being established in the county, together with the wider work of the LCP and its achievements.

It was fantastic to see our students and school pupils engage in hands-on cyber-related activities and discover more about study pathways and future job opportunities set to be created by the county’s cyber sector.

Our Level 3 Bricklaying students embarked on a change of scenery this week as they took a step into our Hairdressing classroom for an exciting skills swap! 🧱➡️💇

Level 3 Hairdressing students peer mentored the group and encouraged our Brick students to participate in a practical hair setting activity, using a brick sectioning technique, which is a method of setting hair that is relatable to techniques used in brick laying.

Well done to all involved! Students achieved a great result, demonstrated excellent resilience and participation, as well as willingness to learn a new skill.
