Spring lambs doing a bit of classic skipping with delight next to Burnsall Bridge in Wharfedale, North Yorks! Always guaranteed to bring a smile to your face with their antics! Looking forward to seeing them out in force soon along with the cherry yellow daffodils blowing in the breeze and the tiny ducklings all along the River Wharfe. Bracing walks to make your cheeks tingle, a welcome pint of good Yorkshire ale and a traditional pub lunch - followed by a brisk walk back along the river and a welcoming hearth at Fell Beck Cottage with a log fire burning and tea with home made scones. As the February sun starts to bring fresh warmth and light to our mornings and maybe a few more sunny days I thought I’d treat you to one of the delights of Springtime at Fell Beck Cottage in Burnsall, Wharfedale. This dear little lamb was ever so tiny but oh so curious and came over to say hello (as long as he’d first checked that his Mum was close by!) So, so sweet. And the sound of their dear little voices is enough to melt the hardest of hearts. The sheep are generally so curious and friendly and frequently accompany us along our walks. Come and meet them! Guaranteed to make you smile! https://www.ruralretreats.co.uk/england/yorkshire-holiday-cottages/fell-beck_yo079
Now that all the excitement and bustle of Christmas is past you might want to consider a peaceful antidote: country walks, river rushing by, birdsong, snowdrops starting to peep through, wonderful ancient pubs with craft beers and delicious home cooked food - and a roaring log fire in your cosy cottage just a stroll across the village green. Happy Summer Sunshine at last! Today I’m taking you on a mini-tour of lovely Linton, famous for its three bridges - the ancient Clapper bridge made of giant stone slabs, the later packhorse bridge which peddlers would have crossed with a mule carrying their wares and the modern road bridge leading to the fabulous Fountaine Arms which serves excellent food in a perfect setting on the village green. You can also see the historic almshouses built in grand style for the poor of the parish. And all of this about a 5/10 minute drive from Fell Beck Cottage in Burnsall.
