This is a great guide to what to see and do when you Visit Skipton
How long do you need for a visit to the Yorkshire Dales? Here are some things to think about to make the most of any trip. It's always worth staying longer!
The Yorkshire Dales cover a vast area with over 30 different dales (valleys) and no-one quite agrees where they begin or end. So you could spend a long time covering the whole area!
It can take a little longer to get anywhere, thanks to the narrow roads, incredible views you'll want to stop and admire, and occasional 'traffic jams' (usually sheep or cows on the move).
One of the strengths of the Yorkshire Dales is that each dale, village and market town is distinctive with its own character. So if you only go to Hawes, you'll miss out on the different delights of Settle. And if you go to Malham but don't visit Masham, or go to Askrigg but not Aysgarth, or Richmond but not Grassington... then you'll be missing out even more...
That's not to say we want to encourage you to dash from one place to another. You'll get much more out of a visit if you choose a base for a few days and explore locally in more depth. You won't run out of things to do! If you come back and stay in another village or market town, you'll be able to enjoy somewhere with a different character and feel. Getting an insiders' view and really understanding the Yorkshire Dales takes time.
Many interesting places to visit are small and quirky. You might not want to spend hours in each of them, but together they make for a really intriguing and stimulating visit, full of variety and interest.
It's easy to unknowingly drive by some of the most fascinating spots - they're often hidden in plain sight and only known to locals. It really pays to get out of your car and explore more - and of course to sign up for my fortnightly Yorkshire Treasures updates www.yorkshiretreasures.co.uk/happy
I can list at least 300 things to do in the Yorkshire Dales, so whatever you're planning - plan to stay a little longer! A day trip is lovely but booking a few days is even better. You won't regret it.
Agree? What's the longest you've ever stayed or your record number of repeat visits? Or maybe you loved the Dales so much you moved here?
