💚 What a beautiful day!

Today we ventured out to Ingleton Falls Trail. It was fantastic. A wonderful circular walk, taking in so many pretty waterfalls, a superb hot dog and an ice cream.

Views a-plenty and a great work out for the legs! Well worth a visit!!

It has been a wonderful weekend for her in the Yorkshire Dales. Many of her friends and family have travelled north to see her and spend some time with her.

We have had lovely meals at the Green Dragon (Hardraw) and The Fountaine Inn (Linton), had a great bbq, visited Hardraw Force and enjoyed a road trip over Buttertubs Pass to Swaledale.

🥾🥾 "This Weekend's Walk"

#24 - Kettlewell - Starbotton Circular

What was supposed to be a leisurely walk along the river and back became an impromptu 6 mile circular trek from Kettlewell to Starbotton and back - but with a difference!!

The first part of this walk was very simple. Nice and flat following the riverside path to Starbotton. Deciding against just turning back and following our footsteps, we crossed the footbridge and headed to the Fox and Hounds pub in this charming little village. After a quick drink and packet of crisps we continued on our way and headed out of the village up the steep Starbotton Cam Road and then followed the ridge along Starbotton Road to its junction with Cam Head.

From here you are treated to superb long distance views of Rylstone Cross and Flasby Fell, and much closer views of the majestic Great Whernside and the ancient Tor D**e earthworks. We then turned off and headed south along the renowned Top Mere Road back in to Kettlewell.

Despite the grey clouds, the weather was just right. It remained dry and besides a mildly nippy breeze, it was perfect conditions in which to walk.

💚 After a busy and exhausting week, we enjoyed a very gentle short stroll around the forest this afternoon. Exploring one of the newly opened cross-country paths and admiring the bright coloured flowers along the way.

They're back!!

And we got a much better view of the Red Arrows today!

Got a great viewing point high up just off the main road between Hawes and Garsdale Head. Saw them turn the corner out of Mallerstang and then watched them fly straight down the valley and right over our heads! Amazing!

Managed to nip away from our duties for an hour to catch the magnificent Red Arrows fly over Hawes on their way to Scotland!

Always a thrill to see them fly!

💚 Well, today we were in Muker!

Having worked on Bank Holiday Monday and wanting to take advantage of some free time and good weather, we headed to our favourite place in the Yorkshire Dales:

The Muker Meadows.

Many of you will recognise it as we have posted about this magical place once or twice before - and we don't apologise for posting about it again! 😀

It really is a wonderful place, so peaceful and beautiful. The wild flowers in the meadows look amazing and the views of the river running through the wide gorge are absolutely stunning. We didn't go as far as Crackpot Hall or Kisdon Falls today, we just walked along the flat river bank and back.

🥾🥾 "This Weekend's Walk"

#23 - High Greenfield Knott 10 miles circular walk.

It's not often we post two featured walks on the same weekend, however, it was a Bank Holiday and we had some friends up so we have made the most of it!

Saturday's walk was a fairly short waterfall walk. Sunday's walk was one of our favourite "from our doorstep walks". This is a challenging ramble not for the faint-hearted. Although only a moderate distance of 10 miles, this walk really takes it out of you but offers spectacular views of the Three Peaks, Ribblehead Viaduct, Pendle Hill and the South Lakes as well as truly remote desolate jungle-like conditions through the forest.

Setting off from Willow Cottage, we headed down the lane to Beckermonds then turned right and crossed the bridge over the beck and took a deep breath before beginning the exhausting ascent of the steep 3-stage hill that runs along the edge of the forest. Finally at the top of this beast of a hill we went through the gate and dropped down the other side about 50 metres to stop for a snack and drink while admiring the amazing views of the Three Peaks, Cosh, Foxup and Foxup Moor.

Continuing the walk we returned to the gate and followed the wall along the ridge for about 4 miles admiring the hundreds of sapling Christmas Trees and far reaching views through Littondale. Upon reaching the trig point on High Greenfield Knott and then admiring the nearby cairn, we headed downhill towards the forest perimeter fence and followed it across the slope of the hill and carefully negotiating the many deep ravines that have been shaped by the ghylls over centuries.

We went through a gate and scrambled down through the forest until we reached the forest track and then took a right back towards home. We had another scramble to endure to reach the beck in the valley bottom before crossing the water and making our way up and over the meadow to get back to base.

All in all a superb yet tiring 10 mile hill climb and scramble through soft damp ground. The weather was kind, it stayed dry although it was humid which added to the challenge, but we had a great time!

🥾🥾 "This Weekend's Walk"

#22 - Mill Gill Falls and Whitfield Gill Falls Circular - Askrigg, Wensleydale. 4 miles.

Another superb weekend walk took us on an explorative journey through Whitfield Gill - a fantastic woodland romp navigating between carpets of wild garlic and wild flowers, and working our way over and around giant bolders and fallen trees.
(Please note: this is NOT a wheelchair or pushchair friendly walk!)

The walk begins in the quaint village of Askrigg, parking in the public honesty box-operated car park. From here we walked down the main str**t to the beautiful church, turning right just before it and following the quiet lane weaving past rows of lovely cottages.

At the end of the lane, bear right following the signpost for Mill Gill Falls, walking across a field until you meet the stream. Go over the bridge and turn right walking up through the woodland keeping the stream on your right.

After less than half a mile fork off to the right at the signpost for Mill Gill Falls only to the end of the path where you can view the impressive waterfall. Then we returned on ourselves back to the path and turned right to continue upstream through the woodland.

At another fork in the track we went left to see reach Whitfield Gill Falls. Taking great care as it was slightly muddy in places and on the flat section as we approached the waterfall, there are dozens of rock bolders and fallen trees that we had to clamber over but when we reached the falls - wow!!

There is a delightful plunge pool beneath the huge cliff from where the water falls. The best part was the path that enabled us to stand behind the falling water, so close that you could feel the water!

Then we headed back to the path and returned down stream and then followed the signpost for Askrigg, which passes the smaller Lower Whitfield Gill Falls, crosses the stream and heads steeply up the other side of the woodland and joined the rough track known as Low Straights Lane back to Askrigg.
