The mightiest river whichever way you look at it.

The Amazonas River, 7,020 km in length, rises at the foot of Mount Mismi in Peru, and drains into the Atlantic Ocean from Brazil.

Their tributaries pass through Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname.

There is no bridge to cross this river.

Spanish explorer Francisco de Orellana was the first European to reach its source in 1541.

Orellana reported on her return to Spain that the boats were attacked by many women fighting with bows and arrows.

Thus, giving a homeric touch to history, he decided to name the Amazon River in honor of the mythical women who fought against Hercules and Achilles in Greek mythology.

A symbol of how fragile the natural world is.

Today is the 10th anniversary of Lonesome George’s death. The emblematic tortoise was considered one of the most famous reptiles in the world for his longevity and for being the last surviving individual of the species Chelonoidis abingdoni.

George was and will be a permanent symbol of the conservation efforts in the Galapagos Islands.

The pyramid where you are still allowed to climb its steps like the ancient Mayans

The Temple of Nohoch Mul, located in the archaeological zone of Cobá, Quintana Roo, is one of the most imposing pyramids of the Mayan civilization, 42 meters high. Unlike the pyramids of Chichén Itzá or Uxmal, this one still allows visitors to climb its 120 steps, offering a spectacular view of the surrounding jungle. Built between 500 and 900 AD, it is believed to have been an important ceremonial center and strategic point of Mayan trade, connecting various cities through elevated roads known as sacbés.
