Many people in the Falklands grow much of their own vegetables, particularly the farmers. Root crops and brassicas usually grow well and easily outside. We then have polytunnels and greenhouses for the plants that need more warmth and shelter like our salad veg. There are some very skilled gardeners around. This is my parents polytunnel at the moment, full of delicious fresh fruit and veg. They also have extensive outdoor gardens and provide many, many kilos of vegetables for the residents of Stanley.

Diddle-Dee!!
This dark green low-lying shrub covers many acres of land in the Falkland Islands. At this time of year it produces a small edible red berry, although it’s not particularly pleasant to eat straight from the bush as it is rather tart. It does however make a rather delicious jam, and you can buy small jars to try in many of the gift shops in Stanley.

It’s pretty windy today and due to get up a bit more as the day goes on, so we were pleasantly surprised that Oosterdam came into port this morning. The tender drivers are doing well so far in quite trying conditions compared that what they are used to. Our passengers are all ashore and away to Volunteer Point and Bertha’s Beach on their tours. 🚙🐧 #FabulousFalklands #EstanciaExcursions
