Greenacre School, Bedford

Liz Lake Associates were appointed by Lungfish Architects on behalf of the jointly run Rushmoor and St Andrews Schools in Bedford to provide landscape design and planning services for a new, single school and sports facility on a greenfield site in North Bedford. The new school with be a ‘through school’, catering for children between the ages of 3-18yrs, as such a diverse range of facilities and experiential opportunities needed to be provided, construction is currently on site and due to open in the 2024/25 academic year……

Cotton End Primary School, Bedford.

Liz lake Associates worked closely with Lungfish Architects to create a new Forest School to replace an existing primary school. The concept was to introduce a series of classroom buildings within a relaxed, natural environment which would offer children regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment. A recent Ofsted inspection (February 2017) confirmed this by stating that ‘pupils thrive in the positive and encouraging environment’.  The well considered landscape scheme allows the school to actively encourage outdoor learning and each class has a dedicated session within their timetable, to engage the children in all sorts of activities including den building, campfire activities including toasting marshmallows etc. The landscape scheme also incorporates drainage features and biodiversity enhancements within an integrated landscape scheme…..

Beeston Town Centre

Liz Lake Associates were appointed on behalf of Broxtowe Borough Council to provide the public realm design for the second
phase of this ambitious regeneration scheme in Nottingham’s largest suburb. Working in collaboration with Faithful & Gould and Leonard Design Architects the project comprised of a new cinema and retail units focusing on food and drink situated within a new public space at this entrance point into the area. Opened in 2021, The scheme forms the second phase of an overall £50 million development, Phase 1 included the refurbishment of the shopping precinct, new and improved public transport connecting the town to the NET tram network, more retailers, cafes and a fitness gym……

Project Atria-Biomedical Campus, Cambridge

Liz Lake Associates were involved in the detailed design of this new Heart & Lung research unit on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, adjacent to the new Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.  This £41M Project won the Award for ‘Best New Building over £2m’ and combines high-quality wet and dry lab space. The external spaces were designed to integrate existing features and water bodies, LLA worked closely with SDC and technical architects RHP architects to deliver this high-quality space with atrium green roof and PV panels.  The design combines contemporary hard surfacing materials with bespoke planting beds which enabled this scheme to nestle within the wider Hospital masterplan.

It’s great to see works progressing at Manningtree Park in Essex.

Liz Lake Associates were appointed to create a high-quality residential scheme for 483 new homes set between the market town of Manningtree and Mistley village. The Landscape proposals take inspiration from the locality, respond sensitively to the surrounding open countryside landscape and fit comfortably within its context. Where sensitive views are afforded, mitigation will be incorporated to reduce visual impact with surrounding residential areas such as the recently implemented Lawford Green to the western boundary.
The landscape-led scheme incorporates large areas of public open space, trim trails, SuDS features and village green landscape. The scheme was developed collaboratively with the client, architect, engineer, and ecologist to create a high-quality development.
We’ve been involved from the early conceptual stage through to construction, including preparing information and attending presentations and meetings with the local council, preparing the Design and Access Statement, and producing the detailed tender & construction drawings for the site.

183 New Homes Set to be Built in Longbridge

We’re pleased to announce that planning permission has been granted for St. Modwen Homes to build 183 new homes in Longbridge.
The site, which will be called St. Modwen Homes at West Works, was previously home to one of Europe’s largest car plants.
It’s now set to become a desirable mixed-use development with beautiful green spaces, and sustainable transport links, all in proximity to a variety of amenities in Longbridge Town Centre.
The first residential phase of the development will include a range of 1, 2, 3, and 4-bed houses and apartments, including 58 affordable homes, alongside public open spaces, parking, and landscaping.
As part of the ongoing commitment to local nature and the environment, West Works has seen an extensive tree-planting programme take place. Over 2,700 new plants will also be added the central boulevard to create a thriving, green environment.
A nature trail and art installation are also part of the development along a 1.5km walking and cycling route. Scannable QR codes and sculptures will be placed along the trail, allowing residents and visitors to scan and find out more about the local area and wildlife.

Belgrave Village- Wavesmere LLA worked with Wavensmere Homes and The Galliard Apsley to develop a new contemporary community at the heart of Birmingham: Belgrave Village. Located moments away from New Street Station and Grand Central shopping centre, Belgrave Village is a landmark development providing 438 city centre homes in a combination of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses set around landscaped courtyards and gardens. LLA created a strong planting palette of seasonal planting creating year round interest with interesting plant species to create habitat value.

The two Lambeth College schemes Liz Lake Associates worked on throughout the planning process have been granted consent by the Lambeth planning committee on the 27th February. The schemes will deliver 529 homes alongside a new college building within the Clapham site and 262 homes within the site in Vauxhall.
Liz Lake Associates worked on the conceptual and developed design of the site’s landscape and external arrangements.

This award-winning scheme @ Grange Farm sports and recreation facility is home to Colebrook Royals FC, LLA worked closely with Grange Farm Trust to deliver this truly unique 90 acre community facility which encapsulates a bespoke play area, nature reserve, 21 acre parkland and state of the art meeting and class rooms.

Stanmore Place

This award winning, contemporary mixed use scheme is set within a high quality landscape setting. The site is located in a prime position close to Canons Park Station and encapsulates a series of plazas incorporating formal water features each uniquely designed to sit within the immediate context. LLA worked with Formation Architects and formed an integral part of the planning and design team, enabling condition discharge whilst taking concept sketches through to construction.

Chigwell Village

LLA worked with London Square on this bespoke gated development in Chigwell, set around a pocket park the scheme sits adjacent to Grange Farm and encapsulates 43 high-quality 4 and 5 bedroom homes, each plot was designed to reduce impact on the mature boundary trees, the site was designed to increase species diversity and is now fully sold.

Clare College -University of Cambridge After several years of building work, including the construction of a temporary bridge over the Cam and er****on of a crane in the Master’s garden, Clare College marked the official opening of the River Room on the 14th December 2024. The building was positioned within a narrow wedge of land between two brick gardens walls, this construction was incredibly challenging with all building works assembled onsite, and machinery and materials brought in via the temporary bridge. The integration of new facilities within the historic fabric of the Old Court is both ingenious and impressive.
What was once a warren of under-utilised spaces has now been transformed into a social space for all College members to enjoy. With spectacular views over the Cam, the cafe provides seating for over 70 people and has already become a popular place for students, staff and Fellows to have a cup of coffee, meets friends, discuss their work, or simply relax and watch the world go by.
Liz Lake Associates designed the planting and hard works with WWM, retaining as much existing planting as possible whilst integrating with a new fernery and shade garden.

We are pleased to advise you that Andrew Ferguson has been appointed as an Associate to the Practice. Andrew started with the Practice as a year out student in 2007 and following completion of his Masters went on to work with Landscape Contractors and other Landscape Architecture Practices. He re-joined Liz Lake Associates as a Landscape Architect in 2013 gaining promotion to Senior level in 2015.

Andrew has extensive design experience having worked on a variety of projects, his focus will be on developing our London / Urban design client base.

Liz Lake Associates have been novated as a landscape architects for the construction of Phase 2 of Basildon’s St Martins Square regeneration. This phase of work will see the implementation of St Martins Square Gardens as well as the renovation of the sundial.

Liz Lake Associates will be working with Thomas Sinden to deliver this regenerated area of public realm for Basildon.
