We had a fantastic stay, the house is outstanding and every detail has been thought of. everything is done to a high standard and the interiors are absolutely gorgeous. Lovely touch of a welcome basket we loved that! Hot tub was fired up ready for us which was great. We will be back!

Our self catering accommodation in Callander is located close to good cycle routes and many Munros, and are the perfect retreat for those outdoor adventurers.

There are many activities available throughout the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park whether it be hill walking, cycling, fishing, and kayaking from beginners to the most experienced with many local guides and tours available. Please do not hesitate to contact us in advance of your stay and we would be delighted to provide any assistance in order to make it a time to remember.

"A truly great stay at the Steading. The property was spotless and comfortable and everything had been thought of – even a welcome hamper which was well received – thank you. The beds were comfy, showers good and the kitchen extremely well equipped. The hot tub was easy to use and a great addition to our stay. The outside space was brilliant with many areas to sit. Julia was very helpful and quick to respond to any queries prior to our stay and once on site Margaret was just magic! The location was great, just a short walk into Callandar. Thank you, I hope to return.”

There's plenty to do in and around when you stay with us at however we are centrally located for your daily expeditions elsewhere.

Balvalachlan is only 1 hour from the most northern tip of Loch lomond and 45 minutes from the most sothern tip, accessed via different routes, of course 😀.

On this Day in 1594 Henry Frederick, the future Prince of Wales was born.

The Chapel Royal at Stirling Castle was swiftly built as the setting for the prince's baptism. It took just six months to construct and was lavishly decorated with pictures, tapestries, sculptures and a golden ceiling as was befitting of King James VI's first-born son.

This didn't happen for all royal births, of course - James was in line to succeed the childless Queen Elizabeth I of England, so his son’s baptism was carefully stage-managed to proclaim the Stuart dynasty worthy of both countries’ thrones. The English ambassador carried the infant prince in through the chapel’s triumphal arch entrance for the ceremony.
