Wycombe Radio Car Club

Wycombe Radio Car Club We race electric radio-controlled cars, all year round, on our indoor carpet track. Anyone thinking of taking up the hobby can visit for free.

Originally based in High Wycombe but now in Stokenchurch, we are a not-for-profit organisation that is run by volunteers. Our once permanent venue in High Wycombe has now been redeveloped and the club ceased operations for several years. However, a group of former members and committee members have worked to revive the club and begin a new chapter for this once thriving club. We race various class

es of radio-controlled car indoors on a specialist needle carpet surface - check out the ‘Classes’ section of our website for more info. WRCC is a member’s club, but anyone can visit, spectate, or take part as a non-member. RC model motorsport caters for people from all backgrounds, and we do not discriminate on age, sex or disability. We are a BRCA (British Radio Car Association) affiliated club, and we request that anyone who races with us is a BRCA member as well (adult membership costs £25/year). Visit the BRCA Website for further information. The club boasts a variety of skill levels from beginner to advanced so everyone is welcome and there is always plenty of help on offer from our regulars. We recommend paying us a visit and talking to us before jumping in and investing in any equipment so we can help make sure you get suitable gear for your money. Events are run throughout the year by the club on weekday evenings and occasional weekends and we have several National Championship winning drivers to our credit. Most of our action is fed through Facebook – please visit and ‘Like’ our page to be kept updates about news and events! Check out www.wycomberacing.co.uk for more information. No one has asked, you are too polite...but how exactly do we order the heats for our club meetings?

We cannot use the rc-results automatic computer system for heat selection. As the fastest brushed car gets a score of 100 as well as the fastest brushless car. This is a side effect of merging the 2 classes.

So instead we use an average of your last 3 final meeting positions (brushed and brushless merged) to give you an overall rating. Lower is better, so first place would give you "1", second place "2" and so on.

These are then sorted and the heats filled up from the top of the list down. There are sometimes a dash of common sense thrown in when an irregular vistor pops down. But generally this is how it always works...

!!! EXCITING NEWS !!!

We have taken delivery of our new drivers rostrum so it’ll be used for the first time at our next club meeting on February 18th!

The new rostrum is in 3 sections and will be 6m long by 1m wide, so long enough to accommodate up to 8 drivers. Additional sections could be purchased in future if required but what we’ve got is perfectly adequate for our current requirements.

The legs are quickly detachable and are adjustable. This means we can have a rostrum height of 0.8-1.4m depending on the event and track size. For now we can’t go above 1.2m due to not having a safety rail but there will be scope to do that in future.

We’ve got a set of adjustable stairs too, so you can get up and down safely whatever height the platforms are set at.

You’ll also be pleased to know that we’ve managed to fit it into the cupboard with the carpet for storage. So whilst the decks are a 2-person lift, they’ll only need carrying about 10m and not 100m+ from the container outside.

This represents a significant investment for the club and in fact the funding to buy it has been provided by the BRCA on an interest free basis. We need to repay the loan though so please help us to do that as quickly as possible by continuing to attend club race events and support our activities and development.

Meeting report – 4th February 2025

First words, what a terrific meeting! Some fantastic and close racing along with plenty of fun and good humour. 25 Minis and 3 LMP booked in.

Onto qualifying and the Minis really are getting faster and faster every meeting. 4 heats this week and plenty of newcomers.

Taking pole this meeting Patrick Baynton-Glen with his Mardave chassis. 2nd place went to Anthony Williams TWR around 1.5 seconds back from Patrick. A fine 3rd place for Steve Tunaley with his Battcave less than a second behind Anthony. 4th went to recent pace setter Alec Springer with his Battcave. 5th Mark Passingham on his first Wycombe meeting with his Battcave, 6th Sam Snell (Mardave) and 7th John Baynton-Glen (Mardave).

In LMP Mark Stiles was quickest and Mark Goodchild 2nd both using Awesomatix A12X cars.

Onto the finals - Steve Brown took a good win in the D Final Minis by 3 seconds from Wycombe newcomer Jude Stephenson-James. A great drive from the junior. Aiden Williams took a strong 3rd with Elliot Dimelow 4th, Luke Grili 5th and Mike Clarke 6th.

The C Final had some very quick drivers in it. In particular pole sitter Sam Dimelow finding himself in the C. Sam dominated the final driving a near flawless race with a time that would have placed him near the front of the B final.

2nd place wemt to Keith Snell and was the top placed brushed runner.3rd place Carl Rowlinson, 4th Chris Abela, 5th Jamie Morris and 6th Luke Bird.

The B Final was loaded with regular A finalists and very fast drivers.
This time it was Bracknell and Newbury regular Chris Sheldrake who got away well from 3rd on the grid. Chris dominated with a great drive to take the win. Incidently with a time that would have placed him 4th in the A.

Paul Wedley (the top Kamtec car) finished 2nd and Chris Snell 3rd.
Kevin Tombeur (Mr Newbury) 4th, pole sitter Peter Williams 5th and Frank Williams 6th.

Onto the A final which was to be a fast and furious race. Patrick made a great start with Anthony tracking closely. The cars all in grid order. Some contact down the order promoted Alec to 3rd and Sam Snell up to 4th from 6th on the grid.

Around 1 minute in Patrick and Anthony pulled around a 3 second lead on the rest, both very close together. Eventually Anthony got close enough for a move on the inside of the hairpin after the sweeper. Patrick closed the door and a little contact pushed Anthony into the apex. From my point of view in the stewards room, definitely a racing incident! 🙂

Dropping Anthony to 3rd and the excellent Sam Snell finding himself 2nd. Anthony recovered to get back 2nd position and this was hom it was to end. Patrick taking the win by 4.4 seconds from Anthony Williams 2nd. 3rd went to Sam Snell, Steve Tunaley 4th, Mark Passingham 5th. 6th went to Alex Springer and John Bayton-Glen 7th.

The inaugural LMP handicap race was next. Mark Stiles agreeing a 4 lap head start for Mark Goodchild. However the result still went the same way. Mark Stiles making the 4 lap pass 2 laps from the end.
Mark Stiles' Awesomatix A12X very well hooked up this evening.
Hopefully a bigger LMP turnout at the next few meetings this year.

All in all a great nights racing. See you all on the 18th of February.

Back to Wycombe for our popular club night on the 21st of January. Some racing at the weekend with Mini Masters and the latest LMP national meant a reduced entry. But still we managed an impressive 18 Minis and just the 2 LMP. Hopefully many more LMP at the next meeting.

In the Minis we had just the 4 brushed cars with the others being 2S/25.5 brushless.

Onto qualifying and the Minis continues to get more and more competitive. All drivers in the top 2 heats having a very good shot at the A final. In the end it was Alec Springer (Battcave) taking another pole from Shaun Batt (Battcave) and Anthony Williams (TWR). 4th position went to Sam Snell (Mardave), 5th Steve Tunaley (Battcave) and Peter Williams (Battcave) 6th.

For LMP, Mark Goodchild (Awesomatix) overcame a long standing electrical issue with Mark Stiles help and put that to good use to take pole from Darren Wilkinson. (Destiny)

Onto the finals, the C final was won by Carl Rowlinson from Kevin Williams in 2nd. 3rd place when to Christoper Abela. Elliot Dimelow getting a special mention for 4th place with a strong final.

The B Final was won by Frank Williams. Frank winning from the 2nd position grid slot. Sam Dimelow took 2nd and Remo Casadei 3rd. Remo with the fastest lap in the final (9.79 seconds) Pole man Chris Snell ended up 4th.

The A Final was another good race. The front 3 broke away from the rest of the field at the start and put in some fast laps. Alec led the first few laps but was under lots of pressure from Shaun. In the end Shaun took his chance with a move on the inside at the end of the sweeper. Unfortunately Alec ended up in the barriers at this point. Shaun then led from Anthony but incidents for both dropped them down the order. Eventually causing Shaun to DNF. After a few more incidents Anthony ended up in the lead and at the end of the race Alec took 2nd and Peter Williams with a great drive from 6th on the grid, 3rd. Chris Snell 4th, Steve Tunaley 5th and the unluck Shaun Batt 6th. Shaun with the best lap of 9.33 seconds.

The LMP race was a quieter affair. Mark Goodchild taking the win and Darren Wilkinson 2nd.

See you all again soon on the 4th of February.

So first race report of 2025! So would WRCC continue to build on the fantastic year of 2024? Would the racers still support the rebirth of the club in 2025?

The answer, of course!
20 minis and 5 LMP booked in for our first meeting on the 7th of January.

On to qualifying and the Minis have really got very competitive now with a large number of drivers capable of making the A final.

Mr Battcave, Shaun Batt led the way this week with a fast 34 lap score on "Queens Manor Park" layout. Only 3 seconds further back was Anthony Williams going very well this week with the TWR car.
Anthony just pipping Alex Springer who qualified 3rd.
Other A finalists were 4th Steve Tunaley, 5th Remo Casedei and 6th Frank Williams. All of these drivers racing Battcave chassis.

In the LMP qualifying Mark Stiles continued his dominance with the Awesomatix A12X. 2nd went to Stu Cartwright running his new Xray. 3rd went to Vincent Wong.

3 Mini finals for this meeting starting with the C Final. The C Final race was dominated by Carl Rowlinson showing good pace to win by over a lap from Steve Brown in 2nd. Alistar Weston finished 3rd.

The B Final had some fast drivers unlucky to miss the A Final. In the end Peter Williams took a hard fought win by around a second from Chris Snell. Bracknell and Newbury regular Chris Sheldrake took 3rd. The top 3 drivers separated by a couple of seconds.

For the A Final the start was fairly clean with Shaun into the lead followed by Anthony. Steve Tunaley unlucky with contact and bumped to the back of the field. At around the 2 minute mark a mistake from Anthony let Alec into 2nd. This was how it was to remain with Shaun taking the win, Alec second and Anthony 3rd.

Steve Tunaley recovered to 4th, Remo Casadei 5th and Frank Williams 6th.

Onto the LMP A Final and Mark Stiles was chased hard from the start by Stuart Cartwright. An incident with Stuart when lapping a back marker released Mark and gave him a comfortable lead. Stuart eventually waiting for Mark so more racing and fun on the track could occur.

This was how to was to end Mark Stiles taking the win, Vincent Wong 2nd, Mark Passingham 3rd, Stuart Cartwright 4th and Mark Goodchild 5th with continued electrical gremlins.

A great start to 2025! See you on at the next one on the 21st.
