The Thistle Awards!
Oh my goodness - what a night it was! I’ve had so many congratulatory messages from friends & guests, (who have become friends) I couldn’t possibly reply to them all - but THANK YOU! (I haven’t told Dosey-Doh, Giggles & crew 🐑🐑🐑 yet, but I’m sure they’ll be just as excited as I am!)
Also a huge thank you to @acthistleawards for giving me the opportunity to showcase Cowden Farmhouse - I’ve always strived to make it a unique and fun place to stay, but this is a validation which I’ll treasure for a long time. BUT it’s not over….Cowden Farmhouse now has the exciting (and somewhat massive) opportunity to represent Aberdeen City & Aberdeenshire at the Thistle Award Finals, held in Glasgow on the 21st November! YIKES!🤣
Sweep’s obviously forgiven me for being the one that had to pin her down while the vet squeezed pus out of her hock when she was younger! 🤢 🤮 I certainly didn’t expect her to come when I called - apparently all is forgiven!🥰
Cowden’s back garden - a safe space to relax, play & explore!
This was an unexpected, but brilliant sighting today - Madam La Phessie (partner to Monsieur Le Phessie - I presume!😂) appeared out of the long grass in the Night Garden with a phenomenal number of chicks. The Night Garden proving it’s worth - the mown path for guests to enjoy, and the rest for wildlife. Love it! 🐥 ❤️
Sun’s out!
Yesterday started and ended with rain, but in between it was absolutely gorgeous!
‘Liz’s Gardening Tips’!😂
‘Liz’s Gardening Tips’!😂 Extolling the wonders of sheep’s wool!
Baby Wrens!
2 weeks ago I discovered a Wrens nest, with eggs! Curious to see if she was still there, I had a very quick look - she’d obviously popped out to get dinner, but look what I found! (Spot the white Icelandic Horse hair in the nest structure!)
WOW - sometimes it’s really good to look back, to see what a difference you’ve made! I just came across this video from 30th March 2021……….
I have 3007 videos on my phone - and it’s because of evenings like this! Just perfect.👌
“Are there any neighbours close by?”
It’s going to be a beautiful day!
Today’s bird count at Cowden - 1 Sparrow Hawk & this pair of Red Kites. 🦅 👀
Stonehaven Fireballs.
Happy New Year from Stonehaven!
🎉How do you celebrate the New Year?🎉
In Stonehaven we’re very lucky to have the unique and spectacular ‘Fireball’ ceremony - a festival which is believed to have been started in the 19th century from the traditional fishermen’s superstition to ward off evil spirits for the year ahead.
As the Town House bell chimes midnight, the procession of approximately 40 local men and women starts. Swinging their flaming balls of fire around their heads, they parade up and down the ‘Old Town’ to the whooping and cheering of thousands of bystanders - both local, and far travelled.
The fireballs are then cast into the sea, before a spectacular firework display takes place over the harbour. It’s an incredible event - a chance to see old friends, see the New Year in with a bang, and be part of something which is steeped in history and world renowned.
Wishing you much joy and happiness tonight - whatever you do!
