Peaceful 16th century Holiday Cottage in the heart of Suffolk

Sleeps 6 to 8 in 3/4 bedrooms, family friendly, dogs welcome, non-smoking. Cocketts is a delightful 16th century listed cottage tucked away at the end of a no-through road in the heart of Suffolk. Cocketts sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms, but with the option of using a single and double futon in the attic playrom, can accommodate up to 9, in 4

rooms, at a stretch. Built by one of the early Quakers, Cocketts is a peaceful and well-equipped retreat with everything you need, including WiFi. It is cosy in the winter, with a log burning stove in the inglenook fireplace; and in the summer it is a delight. It's surrounded by farmland and sits in about an acre of its own garden. If you can drag yourself out of the house you can visit the owners' goats, chickens and turkeys before exploring all that East Anglia has to offer. It has comfy seating, and a kitchen for 8, high quality bed linens, luxurious large bath towels, an attic den with a PS3 and games and toys for all ages.

Late January does not have much to recommend it; unless you get lucky with a cold crisp dry day. Today was not such a day but I thought, knowing that I'd find something, I'd go looking for signs of spring. I know where to look first, under the hazel tree. I raked the bed so the signs could be seen more easily. And here they are - snowdrops, akonites and crocuses, none yet at their best but they herald more colorful times. Roll on spring…...

Owls; you can hear them in the garden of CockettsHolidayCottage and see them in the trees as you approach Cocketts. Beautiful creatures as you can see from this chap who we found on the road - having been injured by a car. We took him to the owl sanctuary at Stonham Barns. He was fed and nursed back to health. Last weekend we released him again.

I know Christmas is close but here’s a brief memory of Spring. Proud Mum and her chicks...if you book now for Spring or summer you’ll enjoy all sorts of new life bursting out in the Suffolk countryside and we might (you need to understand we have no control of this) have more chicks. If we don’t have chicks then wild ducklings and moorhen chicks seem to be provided by nature every year.

Cocketts was looking particularly scrumptious against a cloudless sky in the Autumn sunshine last weekend..

Cocketts in the autumn, living up to the season's promise of mellow fruitfulness. Apples, conkers, elderberries, plums, sloes, damsons, walnuts, quince, green gauges, bullaces, ash keys, blackberries, grapes even (though they are next door...)....take your pick.

Introducing Hercules and Nelson - our new baby pygmy goats who were born on Tuesday afternoon...So cute and such fun!

22/05/2017

Beautiful evening yesterday, and looks as though we are set for good weather for next week or so. No-one here this week to enjoy it - what a shame!
Several weeks in June still available too....

06/05/2017

I am trying to set up a web cam in the goat shed so we can keep an eye on our pregnant pygmy goat Nancy. Today I at last gor some data connectivity at the shed; so the goats have inernet, but only just. I shall try the camera later on - and post the results here. But so far progress on this project has been slow; it's all a bit complicated...

News from Cocketts holiday cottage:
Yes, Nancy, the pygmy goat, is pregnant. She didn't much like the scan, so all the vet could say was that she is expecting between 1 and 4 kids. We know they are due in mid-June. 'Goat-cam' is currently being rigged up!
Easter Monday saw the arrival of Marcus, Martha and Mary, the new turkeys. Marcus in particular is quite splendid to look at, but they seem to be birds of quite little brain. They like to wander along the lane to visit neighbours, we've found eggs in various places - amongst the rhubarb is a favourite, and they have to be physically put to bed each night!!
Finally, we have some late availability in May and June, which is then the last until very late September. So if you fancy a short break, or longer, in rural Suffolk - just have a little look www.cockettsholidaycottage.co.uk

14/04/2017

A visit to the vet next week should confirm whether Nancy is pregnant or not. If she is, and all goes well, we may have baby goats from late June!
