Milder weather and longer days see some more exotic water craft tour Loch Shieldaig. Earlier in May we had Barry Diller’s three mast super yacht EOS arrive and spent the night by Shieldaig. We’ve had the Waverley paddle steamer come through as she regularly does plus a Danish cruise ship on tour with many of the passengers launching on the loch in RHIBs for a bit of sightseeing. Never a dull moment spectating the comings and goings from the house.

The road to Torridon. One of the best things about a visit to Torridon highlands is the road to get there from the east. The terrain and scenery progressively become more dramatic and beautiful. When you crest the hill and look down the long winding road through Glen Docherty to Loch Maree, it’s impossible not to gasp momentarily. And then there is more to savour, the drive through Glen Torridon after Kinlochewe has you craning your neck forwards to try and see the summits of the giants Beinn Eighe and Liathach through the front windscreen. As you approach the house around the edge of Lochs Torridon and Shieldaig, they reveal themselves more fully, as does Beinn Alligin. And no matter the wintry weather, the promise of a warming fire and some serious creature comforts await at the house. Perfect winter getaway!

The art of slow living - Scottish highlands winter edition. Whilst storms rage outside and tear funnels of water from the surface of the loch, immerse yourself in small, simple, slow indulgences. Allow the wildness of the outdoors to settle your mind while you rest, recover and rejuvenate. A stay here *is* the holiday. You don’t need to rush about, and you’ve no other places to be. Those rocks over the water formed 2bn years ago, they ain’t going anywhere anytime soon…

Winter in Torridon and Applecross can be mesmerising. It’s quite, it can be crisp and clear, and never more do you appreciate a slow burning fire and a warming dram.

Winter sunrises. When the weather is clear (more often than you'd think, but shhh.. that's a secret) sunrise is quite the spectacle. It's a low, lazy, late affair, best enjoyed with coffee in hand. When that strained orange light hits the mountains, it really is something to be enjoyed.

Lazy days .na.h_iolaire
There’s something about the Scottish highlands that connects you in equal measure to nature and history. It’s immersive, such that just ‘being’ is enough. ‘Doing’ is optional..

It’s been an amazing week for wildlife watching with the return of a very large pod of dolphins to Loch Shieldaig. Other sightings include otters, seals, eagles and closer to the house you will often see our little pine marten friend make an appearance. Love Scottish highland and sea loch wildlife!

We have only one 7-night stay remaining in September / October and that’s it until winter. This slot is the first week of low season rates and is a really nice time to visit the highlands. The nights will be drawing in, the trees turning and the evenings will be moody but not yet frosty. Whilst the house appears tucked until the hillside, the land falls away steeply to the loch, meaning the views are just astonishing in any weather or conditions. You’ll not forget a stay here. Booking via web link in the bio.

Are you taking your holidays in the autumn after the rush of summer is over? We have a couple of weeks’ availability in late September and early October. It’s a beautiful time to be in the Scottish highlands; the hills turn a rich burnt orange, the trees have their full colour on, and the nights are a bit longer which gives you a much better chance of seeing the northern lights. The days can be mild or crisp and you might see the first dusting of snow on the Munros across the loch. It’s a lovely time for walking if you get the right weather, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t, there’s always the fire, a warming glass of scotch and a good book…

Have you booked next year’s holiday yet? Summer at the house is an experience all of its own. Enjoy a (very) early sunrise from bed as the golden rays breach the high mountain ridges of the Torridon Munros. Take in the intense green of the forestscape below and watch wildlife in the turquoise water of the sea loch. See the sun complete it’s full circuit to set in the high northwest out to sea. The weather in Scotland is often quite a lot better than people imagine, but shhhhhh… no need to let on about that - if you know, you know.
We’re fully booked for this summer, and next summer dates we think will be popular.

Only one 3 night short stay available in August.
If you’re still interested in a short 3-night weekend break we have just one remaining at the end of August. Otherwise we are fully booked until the beginning of October. These shots are from one of our recent guests and they have captured the light and the mood beautifully. The view is ever changing and the sunsets as we approach the solstice have been incredible. Such an amazing time to visit the highlands. Booking link to our website in the bio.

Same as the reel, but nicer aspect ratio.. Ever wondered what it’s like to build a house on the edge of a cliff overlooking a loch in Scotland? Yes, I thought so - here’s 18 months of house building condensed into 40 seconds. Starting in summer 2021 surrounded by iridescent greens and finishing in mid winter 2022/23 in the whitest of snow, the build saw 6 changes of the Scottish seasons and every kind of highland weather imaginable. Worth the wait? Absolutely!!
