Moody scenes from the house. We love the many many moods of autumn and winter in the Scottish highlands. The light can be so delicate, and at other times so powerful with intense contrasts between light and shade. Such scenes are always ephemeral, like fine cinematography, enough to delight and inspire, but quickly progressing to keep the momentum of the story enthralling. You’ll not easily forget your stay here.

Changing light in the Torridon highland on the west coast of Scotland. Wake up to amazing sunrises and often a still and glassy Loch Shieldaig. The light changes dramatically throughout the day, but always the wildness of the view is in equal part calming and exhilarating. Is this your vibe? We have a near term week’s stay available this April that has recently become available. Our guests often tell us after their stay that they did not realise how much they needed the rest and rejuvenation. Others tell us that the house and surrounds unlock a deep sense of calm, to a level previously unappreciated. Such is the careful embrace of the highland environment, the view, and the weather when experienced from our quiet lochside hideaway.

While storm Èowyn rages, we’ve had a very rare week become available April 25th to May 2nd this year. This is probably the most sought after time at the house and together with our autumn stays, spring is usually booked out 18 months to 2 years in advance. There are often spells of very fine weather and the early sunrises over the mountains and sea loch can be blissfully enjoyed from the comfort of your bed. Reflections on Autumn giving way to Winter. The leaves are all gone now, the days are very short and it has been quite cold. There have been dry days, perfect for embracing the outdoors around a warming firepit, and a fair share of wet and windy days too, as well as a heavy stint of snow in late November. Inside, the fire keeps things very toasty. The views change, but they are no less dramatic, and sometimes reveal themselves in layers of light and shadow. It’s all very good for your soul!

We have a nearer term 4-night slot available in February next year which can be booked direct on our website (link in profile bio.) Your first glimpse of the house is through the trees down to our secluded clifftop location. From the outside, the windows give a tantalising glimpse of what lies beyond, however once inside in the warmth, the view transforms into a full cinematic experience. Whatever the season or weather you’ll not easily forget a stay here.

Magic moments for our guests at the house this week with a strong aurora making a great showing overnight. And, it was accompanied by an even rarer appearance of STEVE which they also captured on camera. As a designated dark sky zone, the west coast of Scotland is one of the best places in the UK experience the northern lights. The skies are clearer more often than people will lead you to believe. Just magic.

Happy Friday everyone, from the last days of summer in Scotland. It’s been a mixed weather season, in equal parts moody, sunny, windy and rainy. Our guests over the summer have seen all modes of highland weather and made the most of the long days and, sunny spells or taken the opportunity to coorie in during the wilder periods. As the nights draw in now we are really looking forward to our favourite time in the highlands - autumn. Crisp days, burnt orange hues, and a little snow dusting on the tops will soon be with us. Cant’t wait, tbh! Can you?

Milder weather and longer days see some more exotic water craft tour Loch Shieldaig. Earlier in May we had Barry Diller’s three mast super yacht EOS arrive and spent the night by Shieldaig. We’ve had the Waverley paddle steamer come through as she regularly does plus a Danish cruise ship on tour with many of the passengers launching on the loch in RHIBs for a bit of sightseeing. Never a dull moment spectating the comings and goings from the house.
