Cottage on the Loch

Cottage on the Loch A 3 bedroom self catering cottage for rent in Lochcarron, in the Scottish Highlands, sat on the edge
(7)

Carrachan is a 3 bedroom cottage, with one double room at the front of the house, a twin also at the front and a small twin at the rear of the house. You enter the house into a Sunroom with comfy chairs for sitting admiring the view across the Loch, the lounge has a coal fire, for curling up on a winter evening or after a long day walking. The kitchen has a large dining table, dishwasher, microwav

e and oven, so self catering is easy to do, plus the village, only a mile away has a butchers, fish van and local grocery shop, so stocking up the kitchen is no chore. If you're looking for a night off cooking, there is the wonderful Loch Carron Inn which serves delicious meals and local beers. Loch Carron is a great base to explore the surrounding areas. Skye is 40 minutes away, Inverness an hour, Plockton and Applecross are both worth a visit, Plockton for its boat rides and regatta and Applecross for its amazing seafood at the Applecross inn.

Do you know about the Scottish National Trail?

Devised by outdoors writer and broadcaster Cameron McNeish, the Scottish National Trail is a challenging, 864 kilometre-long unofficial long distance walking route running the length of Scotland from Kirk Yetholm to Cape Wrath.

We have detailed descriptions and mapping of every stage on Walkhighlands:
https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/scottish-national-trail.shtml

For those walking in stages, if you register, you can even mark off the stages you have done to keep track of your progress.

At the end of April, a band of merry sailors left Lochcarron for a weekend adventure sailing past Plockton, around Raasay to Skye and back home via Applecross. The weather was kind and the winds were steady. They spotted porpoise and otters in the Loch and further out, sailed alongside kittiwakes, puffins, skua and a wide variety of other sea birds. At night the waters glowed bright with plankton as they enjoyed peaceful waters. Is there a more beautiful country to visit? I’m not sure there is.

It was a cracking weather last week for a few days in the Torridon Hills. This was the views from Beinn Alligin

Its always lovely to read through our guest book, to hear the great adventures our guests have had and what they've liked about the cottage (also helpful to get feedback on what we can improve - though unfortunately we cant help with midgies or rain! A big thanks so our recent guests Kevin and Rachel who sent us this fab message;
"Spent the last week in May at Carrachan Cottage. It was absolutely perfect in every way for our family of four. Clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we could need during our stay. Quiet location with a stunning view from the front door and sun room. Great communications with the hosts, we would definitely return to Carrachan if we were up this way again. I would highly recommend your cottage to anyone. Many thanks for sharing it with us, Kevin, Rachel and family"
