It’s Always Sunny in Birsay

One of two new beers being released next week.

Cask only for now, but it’s so tasty and the design is so good we are going to put it in cans as well.

Swannay Brewery is located in the Orkney parish of Birsay (though some people from Evie may dispute this) and it’s not uncommon for the brewery to bask in sunshine when other parts of our beautiful island are blanketed in haar.

Even better, the artwork (like all our artwork) was done by someone from Birsay. Thanks Ian!

The blue background to this picture is actually the Orkney sky (in Birsay).

Definitely worth a visit

Definitely worth a visit

We are delighted to announce that the Barony Mill will soon be re-opening for the summer.

From Monday 29 April, Barony Mill will be open to the public offering guided tours of Orkney’s only remaining working water mill. The tours are a chance for visitors to learn more about the history of bere and the traditional methods we use to milling our flour.

The Barony Mill will be open for tours seven days a week from 11am until the last tour at 4.15pm. Tours last approximately 30 minutes and are suitable for all ages, but please be advised you will need to climb some stairs to reach the upper floors. Tours cost £5 for adults, with children admitted for free.

We also have a shop onsite where we sell beremeal flour and products made with beremeal, as well as other souvenirs.

Visitors can drop in if they are passing, but we do recommend you book a place on a tour to avoid disappointment. You can book a tour by telephoning the Mill on (01856) 721 439, or at the Mill shop.

We hope to see you over the summer!

Lovely place to visit

The Barony Mill will be offering free tours to the public this weekend, as we celebrate our 150 anniversary.

During the summer, Barony Mill is open to the public offering guided tours of Orkney’s only remaining working water mill. The tours are a chance for visitors to learn more about the history of bere and the traditional methods we use to milling our flour.

We also have a shop onsite where we sell beremeal flour and products made with beremeal.

The mill will shortly be closing so we can start milling this year’s harvest. This weekend is a great opportunity for locals and visitors alike to visit the mill and browse in our shop.

Free tours will be available on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September. The first tour starts at 10.15am on each day and they run every 45 minutes, until the final tour at 4.15pm. Tours last approximately 30 minutes. The tours are suitable for all ages, but please be advised you will need to climb some stairs to reach the upper floors.

Places on tours are limited, so please book to avoid disappointment. You can reserve your space by calling the mill on (01856) 721 439.

We hope to see you there!
