Pathfinder Tours have been organising train excursions for nearly 40 years. e around 50 rail excursions every year along both famous and less well known routes to a wide variety of interesting destinations. Some of their trains are made up of heritage carriages hauled by steam locomotives evoking bygone eras. Others are hauled by classic diesel engines arousing the interests of train buffs. Our train trips offer seating in a choice of Standard Class, First Class or First Class Plus (the latter includes light refreshments) and Premier Dining - with Silver Service of Full English Breakfast, Elevenses on the outward journey and a four course Dinner with a quarter bottle of wine on the homeward trip. We appreciate things go wrong, especially when something you are looking forward to is cancelled or postponed, but please remember no member of staff with any company should ever have to face abusive behaviour from customer or colleagues.

Our staff, both in the office and on trains, will always be polite to you, our customers, but unfortunately, in the past 48 hours a number of people have not paid us the same courtesy. Politeness and understanding costs nothing, please remember there is another human being at the end of the phone, and no matter what you think, what has happened or what you are unhappy about, they are trying to help you.

Following the past few days, Pathfinder Railtours will immediately implement a new policy whereby abusive behaviour on our trains, when talking to the office, on social media, in writing through the post or in emails, will not be tolerated under any circumstance, and we reserve the right to permanently ban anyone from our trains who fails to act in a decent, polite, human way.

🚨 PASSENGER UPDATE 🚨

Due to the weather forecast this weekend, our excursion will now terminate at Edinburgh and will no longer visit Berwick-upon-Tweed. (All part-fare passengers have been notified.)

For operational reasons, West Coast Railway Co has confirmed the train will now operate with a single Class 86 and Class 47 in 'top and tail' mode, instead of the originally advertised 2x Class 86 formation.

If you’re joining us tomorrow, please dress warmly—it’s colder in Scotland! ❄️ Stay tuned to our social media pages for further updates.

Update on 7th December 2024- The Mancunian Christmas Marketeer.

We are very pleased to announce that our Manchester Round Robin is now available to book for those wanting to take advantage of this local mini- tour for £75. (Available on new bookings only)

Bookings can be made by telephone: 01453 835414 or 01453 834477 or via our booking system. To make a booking online you will need to Book 1 x Standard Seat, then add the ‘Manchester Round Robin’ option, which will deduct £60 to make the £75 fare. Standard Class Only.

Starting off in Manchester Victoria, heading firstly towards Preston, but just before getting there turning east towards Blackburn and on into the Pennine hill country through Accrington to Burnley. From there we climb to the wilds of Copy Pit Summit, then down into the head of the Calder Valley. Another climb then, through Todmorden to Summit Tunnel and down through Rochdale and back to Manchester Victoria, where those who have spent the afternoon there will re-join us.

We can also confirm that we have added BROMSGROVE* as an extra pick- up and set down! Timings will be confirmed nearer to the date of the rail tour.
(*Please Note: Premier Dining is not available from Bromsgrove.)

Our final Christmas market train for this year’s festive period is the Mancunian Christmas Marketeer on Saturday 7th December 2024.

Home to one of the best Christmas markets in Britain, Manchester will be our destination for this excursion starting from Salisbury. Bursting with over 300 individual stalls we are sure you will be able to find the perfect Christmas present for a loved one (or for yourself). As an alternative to the markets we are also offering a scenic add-on railtour of Lancashire.

Our motive power from Gloucester will be Class 52 diesel D1015 ‘Western Champion’ courtesy of the Diesel Traction Group. Our carriages will also be festively decorated throughout and those travelling in Premier Dining will be able to enjoy a festive menu.

Our second Christmas market train for the 2024 season is the Chester Christmas Whistler on Saturday 30th November.

Join us behind a pair of heritage class 37s for a pre Christmas excursion to historic Chester. Enjoy a day out to one of Britain’s most historic cities and take in over 70 stalls close to Chester Cathedral. The Cathedral with over 1000 years of history can be an alternative destination from the busy markets, as well as the Roman remains at the Chester Roman Amphitheatre.

The first of our Christmas market trains for 2024 will be the Edinburgh Festive Explorer on Saturday 23rd November.

Come and celebrate 50 years of the electrified West Coast mainline with us on a fantastic day out to Edinburgh. There is lots to explore in the capital city including both traditional Scottish Highland and German Christmas markets, the Christmas wheel and the Festive Gardens. If the markets aren’t your thing, you can discover Edinburgh Castle or take a stroll down The Royal Mile.

Alternatively, you can stay on board to travel to Berwick-upon-Tweed, where you can take in the hidden courtyards and medieval remains in Englands most northerly town.
