Well December certainly brought the cold weather with it with one of our busiest days ever yesterday as the North East woke up to a blanket of snow 🌨️

With reports of multiple accidents and dangerous ice brought gridlock to our roads across all areas meaning severe delays for everyone! 🚕🚌🚄✈️

And then in the early hours of this morning we were asked by one of our transport partners to transport stranded passengers from Newcastle to Edinburgh due to the cold weather causing disruption to our rail network so at 3am we currently have 27 vehicles en route to Edinburgh.

All in a day and nights work here at NEARBY!

CHERISHED MEMORIES 💍

A few weeks ago we were asked by the very talented Phil Punton Photography if we would be able to provide a wheelchair accessible vehicle to be used by a very special couple to renew their wedding vows. When we delved a little deeper we realised just how much of a big deal this was to both Peter and his wife Joanne after the Wallsend couple were given the devastating news that Peter has terminal cancer.

So when Phil asked us if we could take them to Beamish for the ceremony we jumped at the chance of helping the pair, on us of course, so we enlisted the assistance of one of our accessible drivers Brian to transport them to and from the venue and as you can see both Peter and Joanne looked stunning as they showed their commitment to one another in a very special place for them both.

Our Nearby North Tyneside Manager Sarah added "As soon as Phil got in touch with me regarding providing transport for Peter and his family there was no hesitation, at Nearby community spirit is everything and we were very honoured to help make a family wish to renew their vows and make amazing memories."

Thank you Phil for the beautiful photographs, you really did the couple proud!

EVERY LITTLE HELPS!

A few month back we met Wayne from The Red Bench Project at nearby HQ where we were overwhelmed by what one guy can achieve when you set your mind to it!

Through meeting Wayne and agreeing to donate the second RED BENCH to the North East promoting he has introduced us to some fantastic charities and great causes around South Tyneside and beyond...

One of which is the lovely Tracy Beaton from Bede's Helping Hands Food Bank a beautiful lady inside and out who has gone above and beyond in helping some of our Borough's most vulnerable families through some very tough times! Like their tagline says "More than just a foodbank" and never a truer word said as the work that her and the team provide is invaluable to our local community from food parcels to clothing, financial help to housing they really are a group of Angels in disguise! 🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏾

So when we asked Tracy how we could help the charity, she asked if we could do a shop to top up some of the essentials they were running short of in providing a welcome meal for many who otherwise would go hungry, something that shouldn't be happening in this day and age but sadly through no fault of their own, many of our South Tyneside families struggle and rely on people like Tracy and the other like minded causes in our area who really are a much needed lifeline to so many!

How could we refuse? So today together with both Wayne and Tracy we took them on a little 'Trolley Dash' just to show how much we care and a thank you from us for all the work that they do that often goes unrewarded.

Thank you both from the bottom of our hearts for all that you do for our local folk and we can't wait to see what's in store from the pair of you and we hope the supplies help out as many of our families as possible, it really has been our pleasure! 💚

With the new school term now under way we're still on the look out for PASSENGER ASSISTANTS to join the nearby team to help provide safe, reliable transport to the hundreds of pupils we provide school transportation for.

The role is basically escorting a pupil or pupils to their choice of school and to make sure they arrive safely. Because of the nature of the job you will be required to work for a few hours in the morning and again in the afternoon and will require a DBS check which we will discuss at the interview stage.
