🌸Happy 1st of May 🌸
🌿This is our gift to you
🇫🇷A sprig of ‘le muguet’ (lily of the valley) is traditionally given to loved ones to bring good fortune for the year ahead.

Generally associated with spring, renewal and luck, on the 1 May lily of the valley is given as a gift. It is also a public holiday known as La Fête du Muguet. The flowers are delicate, bell-like with a lovely sweet aroma.

The tradition of le muguet can be traced back to as early as 1561, when King Charles IX of France received a sprig of the plant. The King was told that it would bring him luck and prosperity for the year ahead, from then on, he decided to share the good fortune by offering lily of the valley to every lady in his court, and continued to do so each year.

🌿Wishing you all luck and happiness throughout the year

Our Story

Welcome to my page! Clare Fennell language tuition was set up in 2017 after a conversation I had with my husband about work / life balance. I was teaching French and Spanish 3 days a week at a brilliant local Secondary School but it was all-consuming. Even when I wasn’t working I was thinking about work, which wasn’t really giving me the headspace to think about or do anything else well.

He simply asked me “Isn’t there something else you could do to use your passion for languages?”. I then chanced upon a Facebook advert for La Jolie Ronde language clubs for children, made a few phonecalls, handed in my resignation, and embarked upon on this journey into something new, challenging, (quite scary) but joyful.

Fast forward two years and I now teach French and Spanish to all ages! I visit Primary Schools to deliver “La Jolie Ronde” extra-curricular language clubs and a local coffee shop to teach French to a wonderful group of adults with “Language for Fun”. I also tutor from home, and offer translation services.

It is varied and fascinating and I get to exercise my passion for languages and culture almost everyday. I never feel the Sunday blues anymore and I have ceased counting down the weeks to each half-term. One of my favourite phrases is “Tout est dur avant d’être facile” - it has certainly not always been a smooth ride, but I am so glad I made that leap of faith (with a little help) and genuinely love and enjoy what I do now.
