Ar fore Sadwrn ffres es i ar daith hir yn y car i un o'n cymunedau gwledig, Garnswllt, i fynd i weithdy gwehyddu helyg a gyflwynwyd fel rhan o raglen o ddigwyddiadau a drefnwyd gan Gyngor Cymuned Mawr ar draws 3 safle yn wardiau gogleddol Abertawe, sef Garnswllt, Felindre a Chraig-cefn-parc.

On a crisp Saturday morning – I took a long drive to one of our more rural communities, Garnswllt, to attend a willow weaving workshop which was being delivered as part of a programme of events organised by Mawr Community Council across 3 sites in the northern wards of Swansea, namely Garnswllt, Felindre and Craig Cefn Parc.

O ganlyniad i grant oddi wrth Gronfa Ffyniant Gyffredin y DU, mae Angori Gwledig Cyngor Abertawe wedi cefnogi cyfres o 18 o sesiynau, sy'n amrywio o wehyddu helyg i greu blychau ystlumod. Mae'r gyfres hon o ddigwyddiadau ymgysylltu â bioamrywiaeth, sy'n addas i bobl o bob grŵp oedran ac sy'n hollol hygyrch, yn bwriadu meithrin cydlyniant cymunedol a chynyddu nifer yr ymwelwyr â'r neuaddau cymunedol a'r mannau gwyrdd.

Thanks to a grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Swansea Council’s Rural Anchor has supported a series of 18 sessions ranging from willow weaving to bat box making. This series of biodiversity engagement events which were suitable for all age groups and fully accessible, aimed to build community cohesion and increase footfall into the community halls and green spaces.

We have had reports of cows following cars and people on the marsh road.

We spoke to the commoners association who had also been contacted by swansea council animal health.

Enquiries have been made by the owner and it’s been revealed that people are feeding the cows.
Feeding the cows is resulting in the cows associating people with food.
Cows are large animals and having one following you can be quite scary.

Please tell neighbours/friends who aren’t on social media to please not feed cows or any animal they don’t own.

Feeding horses on the commons or marsh has resulted in horses becoming seriously ill so please you aren’t being kind you are potentially causing massive issues which could result in death.

It is also illegal to feed catering waste, kitchen scraps, meat or meat products to farmed animals. This is to prevent the introduction and spread of potentially devastating notifiable animal diseases, such as African and Classical Swine Fever, and Foot and Mouth disease. These diseases cause significant animal health and welfare problems and damage to the economy.

Please share this post to raise awareness and if you know anyone who is illegally feeding scraps to any of the common or marsh animals please contact swansea trading standards so they can take action.

Please help protect the animals who live on Gower’s marshes and commons 🙏

🚜☕🍔We loved being able to attend Gower Young Farmers Club’s first ever Farmers Breakfast Market last Sunday, which sought to celebrate ‘where your breakfast comes from’.

The event was held in a marquee on Llanrhidian Primary School grounds, which was funded by UK Shared Prosperity Fund working alongside Swansea Council’s Rural Anchor.

Local traders present, included Big Meadow, Gower Coast Meat, Magpie Artisan Pies, Rodericks Vegetables, Tuckers Butchers, The Gower Gin Company and other Gower-based artisans.

📣Big shout out to Will’s Petting Farm for providing warming cuddles with rescue rabbits and 2 beautiful pygmy goats on a cold day.

It was good to support local small businesses, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming and it was great to be able to chat with local producers and some of Swansea’s young farmers, and find out about some of the challenges experienced by them.

🍔🚜📣Roeddem yn falch iawn o allu bod yn bresennol yn nigwyddiad cyntaf erioed Clwb Ffermwyr Ifanc Gŵyr ddydd Sul diwethaf, a oedd yn dathlu 'o ble y daw eich brecwast'.

Cynhaliwyd y digwyddiad mewn pabell fawr ar dir Ysgol Gynradd Llanrhidian, ac fe'i hariannwyd gan Gronfa Ffyniant Gyffredin y DU wrth weithio ochr yn ochr â chynllun Angori Gwledig Cyngor Abertawe.

Roedd y masnachwyr lleol a oedd yn bresennol yn cynnwys Big Meadow, Gower Coast Meat, Magpie Artisan Pies, Rodericks Vegetables, Tuckers Butchers, Cwmni Jin Gŵyr a chrefftwyr eraill o benrhyn Gŵyr.

📣Hoffem ddiolch i Will’s Petting Farm am ddarparu cyfle i anwesu cwningod wedi'u hachub a 2 afr pigmi ar ddiwrnod digon oer.

Roedd yn dda cael cefnogi busnesau bach lleol, roedd yr awyrgylch yn gynnes ac yn groesawgar ac roedd yn wych gallu sgwrsio â chynhyrchwyr lleol a rhai o ffermwyr ifanc Abertawe, a chael gwybod am rai o'r heriau y maent yn eu hwynebu.
