Worm's Head.. the furthest westerly point of the Gower Peninsula. It's a tidal island, and the Worm’s head is completely cut off from the mainland at high tide. The name is derived from the Norse word ‘Wurme’, meaning dragon or serpent. The sea monster is described in various mythologies, including Nordic mythology. Vikings invaded various places in Wales, including Gower. They believed that the island was a sleeping dragon rising from the sea and named it as such.

The coastal path section from Mewslade Bay to Rhossili in Wales offers a breathtaking journey along one of the most picturesque stretches of the Gower Peninsula. This scenic route is part of a popular circular walk that showcases the area's dramatic landscapes and natural beauty.

The walk takes you past Fall Bay, a secluded cove that disappears at high tide, before continuing towards the iconic Worm's Head promontory. The path winds its way through diverse terrain, including grassy clifftops and rocky outcrops, offering opportunities to spot local wildlife such as seabirds and, on some rare occasions, even dolphins or seals in the waters below.

This section of the coastal path is also rich in history, passing by the remnants of an Iron Age fort and showcasing the area's geological significance. The circular route, which typically starts and ends in Rhossili, is approximately 3 miles long and takes about 2-3 hours to complete, depending on walkers’ abilities.
