The Melukat ceremony is a deeply spiritual experience. We took our guests to a lesser known local temple earlier in the day which meant far fewer other people so we could focus all our energies on the occasion.
Our local guide explained it perfectly. If you are an empathetic person you will often take on negative energy created by others. Melukat allows you the opportunity to literally wash this negative energy away thereby giving your own positive energy the opportunity to shine.

Oops I forgot to mention that before we crossed the Wallis line between Lombok and Bali we stopped off for a lovely lunch and were driven to one of Indonesia’s most iconic waterfalls Mata Jitu . had towels snacks and teas and coffee laid out while we enjoyed this marvel of nature all to ourselves.

Yesterday our guests enjoyed a heartwarming experience with the Melo tribe who are trying to save their cultural heritage through music and dance. We also gave a small gift of school supplies including a selection of reading glasses for the local school which was greatly appreciated.

The last hike, on the last day. In fishing terms this would be called “the last cast”. Through our commitment to scientific research and philanthropy we were expertly guided through the Denum valley by local researchers and were rewarded with the Most incredible experience.
We found Linda with her two week old baby feeding high up in a fig tree. On closer inspection. Gap the amazing research assistant pointed out that Lya, her ten year old daughter was still with her in a tree near by, watching and learning how to be a mother.
Three Orangutan in one sighting. After being told that they may stay in the very top of the very top of the forty metre tree for a further two hours we almost lost hope. But Mother Nature chose to reward us with the best sighting of the whole trip. Linda and baby( still unnamed, but hopefully to be named after our guest) came almost all the way down to us closely followed by Lya.
We were all buzzing.
Moments like this might only happen once in a lifetime.

Borneo’s rainforests and in particular the Denum valley are filled with layer upon layer of diversity and life. All of which are beautifully interconnected.

Gumontong cave is a vast cavern filled with all sorts of interesting creatures adapted to life in this incredible environment. Centipedes and cockroaches in the lower reaches while bats and swiftlets compete for real estate on the walls and ceiling. Definitely worth a visit. The swiftlet’s nests are harvested three times a year for the world famous bird’s nest soup. The nests are made purely from spit . Yummy 😋

Bornean elephants crossing a small channel on the Kinabatangan River last night provided us with memories to last a lifetime. Mothers and babies, bulls and cows all frolicked together oblivious of our presence.
In the last photo you can see the very long tail and short trunk while in the first few photos spot the enlarged frontal lobe all of which makes this a totally unique species.

Safaris in Africa are about so much more than seeing wild animals. Without understanding the people who share this continent with the wildlife true conservation will never be possible.
Our guests and gave us a very specific brief of what they wanted us to achieve on their recent safari and key amongst them was a true and authentic connection to the people of this part of Africa and to expose themselves and their children to families who live a very different life than their own. I think we nailed that brief. This incredibly moving experience was with the Datoga tribe who live on the Southwestern border of the Serengeti national park.

Our safaris are designed to give our guests diversity in every element of their trip. Different destinations and ecosystems allow our guests the opportunity to find different species of the same species. In Northern Kenya we saw reticulated giraffe and the endangered Grevy’s mountain zebra amongst a host of other animals like Grants gazelle and greater Kudu with their beautiful spiral horns.

Our epic adventure by helicopter the far North of Kenya gave us access to highlights such as the Pokot tribe, the hoodoo valley, lake Turkana and the Seguta valley, all of which were stunning with their own individual beauty.
Even though my guests detest flying they showed great courage and put their faith in and to keep them safe while opening their eyes to this magical world.

My guests and had so much fun watching this gorgeous Male leopard going up and down his tree to check on a kill he had stashed away near by.
Earlier on in the day another leopard had been spotted which attracted an excess of 40 vehicles.
Sara and Jesse trusted me when I said let’s rather leave and find our own leopard and thankfully Mother Nature came through for me and we were rewarded with this incredible sighting.

Often your second hike into gorillas is the best. Guests know what to expect and how to behave around the gorillas. All of our expectations were surpassed when we came across a large family in an open area and both guests and gorillas were able to just relax and observe each other.

Sea kayaking with bottle nosed dolphins on the Sea of Cortez in the geologically stunning area of Punta Pulpito is another cherished memory I will take with me and hold precious forever. The Sea of Cortez is the world’s youngest sea at only 5 million years since the San Andreas fault began pushing the Baja peninsula away from the main land of Mexico.
