A few weeks ago I was tasked with looking into the history of RSPB Old Moor, formerly The Wetlands Centre. in The Dearne Valley. A stone above the entrance gives a date of 1755. It began life as a farm back in 1755 possibly. After searching old newspapers I discovered an advertisement in The Leeds Intelligencer on 10th May 1757. A horse was stolen from one of the pastures.... a reward of one guinea was on offer.

A date for your diary should you be interested in your Family History, Local History and wildlife.

RSPB Old Moor are holding a Heritage Evening on Sunday 19th June.
Amongst the attractions will be Chol Theatre performing 'A flock of stories' , a Heritage Exhibition relevant to Old Moor and the surrounding area and guided walks around the Reserve. There are also performances by Rockingham Brass Band and the opportunity to share your stories of the area from the past.

For anyone interested in Family History there will be a table at the event where I will be adverting the services that I provide.

The most popular package I undertake is for a Family Tree. Price £295. I will happily give £20 to anyone booking one at the event.
