For anyone who doesn't yet have plans, we now have the penultimate week of the school summer holidays (23rd - 30th August) available again at a discounted rate of £1040 (due to a medical-related cancellation) and the final week of the holidays (30th August - 6th September) is still available at a discounted rate of £968. We are now in full bloom at The Old Quarry. While the changeover today was long, frustrating and exhausting, I so enjoyed the wild colours and the bouncy rat that certainly keeps the squirrels on their toes - or more accurately, fleeing for their lives! Couldn't quite manage a video of that bit!

A total of 27 people stayed at The Old Quarry at some point in February and, once again, they had plenty to say about their stays. Here's a mash-up of the reviews we received last month (full reviews are visible on our website):

"A perfect, wonderful stay at this lovely, peaceful cabin in a great location. Nice to find a quiet countryside retreat that is an easy walk to a small village! Amazing hosts, super friendly and very helpful. Although they were always contactable, they left easy follow instructions around the place and in the welcome pack. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of utensils and things. Very clean, well kept & super comfortable. Lots to do, with games indoor and outdoor. We even set up the volleyball net. Outside, the wildlife is something you could spend all day watching. Your fab garden has provided lots of inspiration for new paintings! We all had a great family time; not to be forgotten. I would recommend this cabin over and over. 10/10 everything. One of the best places we've stayed. 100% will be back again!"

By the way, if anyone is interested, we've had a cancellation (for medical reasons) and have Monday 22nd - Friday 26th April newly available at a discounted rate of £376. The annual The Old Quarry Photo Competition has run its course and the public have spoken. Congratulations to former guest Andy for his prize-winning shot, full of atmosphere. We shortlisted it as we loved the way the moonlight shines through the textured clouds and casts the trees surrounding the cabin as silhouettes. There's a stillness and peacefulness about it, coupled with the warmth from the lights on the veranda. This is the sense that Andy was hoping to achieve. He says, "Thank you everyone who voted for the picture. I was trying to capture the feeling of calm and stillness that surrounded the cabin. My friend had left me for my last night alone in the cabin. The weather was so still, the owls were calling and the moon was shining brightly. I think the picture captured the eerie calm atmosphere outside and the cosy, inviting glow of the cabin. I can’t wait to come again" And, as the winner, he can now look forward to a discounted stay.

Every month (when we remember to do it!), we post a mashup of the reviews we received the previous month, so here's what our January guests thought of their stay at The Old Quarry (their full reviews can be read on our website):

"A super relaxing stay. The cabin is located in a lovely, peaceful setting; the most quiet, beautiful place. It's also so very well equipped - lots of little details that we noticed and really appreciated. The cabin is lovely, so cosy and warm, it’s like being in a different world, but only a 5 minute walk to get lovely local produce and enjoy great conversations in the village shops.
It’s also a wonderful base from which to explore the countryside on foot. We enjoyed many walks - some from here and some a short drive away. As well as for walking, it’s perfect for many different breaks. Having so much flora and fauna and bird life on our doorsteps gave us so much peace and joy and children will love seeing this and exploring. There is also a lovely swing attached to a tree and a picnic area and barbecue area for families to have their meals outside and enjoy the surroundings. The cabin is also very romantic and is perfect for a couple to go to enjoy a quiet break.
The hosts had been so thoughtful and helpful. This break gave us everything we wanted and more! None of us wanted to leave and would love to return. We would highly recommend the cabin for a relaxing getaway. Great value for money!"

Apologies that we're running this a little later than planned this year - a combination of trying to renovate a house and some family illness means we've got a bit delayed. We recently had the pleasure of decorating at The Old Quarry for the arrival of a guest who was celebrating their 50th. We were couriered some chosen decorations and up they went! We have been told that said guest was reduced to tears when she arrived. ❤️

I have found myself grieving the end of the summer that never fully quite arrived. I spend all year looking forward to summer, so when it disappoints, it hits me hard. However, I came across these photos this morning and they reminded me that other seasons are also really special! It doesn't really matter what the season is, it is always special at The Old Quarry.
