Autumn in the Tamar Valley is a rather wonderful & beautiful place. The mornings become a little fresher and the sun a little less strong, the landscape changes from vibrant greens to autumnal amber, russets & golds and the air smells earthy & organic with a hint of sweetness.
With the busier summer flow of visitors now passing, the valley has become a more peaceful place & the perfect time to enjoy this spectacular landscape.

S e p t e m b e r S u n ☀️

Our weather this summer has been a little disappointing, so to have some September sun has been a very welcome sight; perfect for a little visit down to Salcombe.
Salcombe in the South Hams, on the South Devon coast can be a bit busy in the summer months, but in September, when the crowds have gone & the sun is shining it makes for a rather lovely day out. We tied it in with a stop off on the way back at the super coffee shop for a cooling drink, where we were able to sit outside and catch the last of the afternoons rays. There is also a .green shop, where you can purchase gorgeous eco friendly rugs, textiles & homeware. 💚

M o r e , M o r e . . . D a y s O u t 🌿

Managed by trust, Burrator Reservoir on the edge of Dartmoor National Park is a favourite place of ours and our guests to visit. The circular walk around Burrator is pretty flat and there are many opportunities to walk through the woodland & get close to the waters edge. Burrator is surrounded by woodland with the rugged Dartmoor beyond, so there is much to explore for the more adventurous.
By the main dam is often a van parked where you can reward yourself with a delicious locally made icecream....mint choc chip & vanilla on this occasion! 😋💚

As Rhylla Devon is situated on the Devon/Cornwall border, it makes for the perfect location to stay for those wanting to venture further afield into Cornwall.
Carlyon Bay is a super beach location with a wide beach, the interesting Crinnis Island, a place to hire water sports and a selection of places to drink and eat; we recommend for a cheeky pint while catching a few rays in the late afternoon.
Why not tag on a trip to Carlyon Bay with a visit to Charlestown Harbour (see our previous post) which is very close by. 💚

We are so fortunate that our wonderful local market town of Tavistock has such a great selection of places to eat and drink.
The recently opened on the corner of Brook Street is a super place for a bite to eat or simply a coffee & cake...we thoroughly recommend the coffee cake! 💚

Cared for by South West Lakes Trust, Roadford Lake in the Wolf Valley is a large area of fresh water, surrounded by a variety of different habitats, flora & fauna with stunning views.
There are many nature trails, footpaths & off-road cycle trails of differing distances & difficulties to explore & enjoy; and for those of a more adventurous nature there is an activity centre where you try out a range of activities including sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking & even a spot of fishing. There is also a friendly cafe serving scrummy locally sourced food & drink. 💚

Kit Hill, on the Cornish side of the Tamar Valley is around 334m high and is famous for its spectacular views, not only of the beautiful Tamar Valley, but across to Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor & Plymouth Sound.
Standing near the top and looking north-eastwards with Dartmoor in the distance, look out for a large cheese-wedge like field (our friendly farmer neighbour's field)...Rhylla Devon is just to the left of the top point.
Kit Hill Country Park has an interesting history; from early agricultural & religious purposes to the more recent mining of its stones & minerals and now the home to a wide range of flora & fauna in its heathland habitat, all of which can be explored using the many footpaths & trails and making it a super place to visit at any time of year. 💚

G e t O u t d o o r s

Siblyback Lake is situated on the edge of Bodmin Moor, a designated National Landscape (aonb) and is cared for by South West Lakes Trust.
There is a 5k circular route around the lake which is perfect for walking & cycling. The route is adjacent to the lake and passes over the dam and through woodland; a super place to get outdoors, breathe in the fresh air & enjoy nature. 💚

W o o d F i r e d P i z z a 🍕

If you like pizza, you are sure to love the pizza served at the small, unique, open-air restaurant.

is set on a family farm in rural Devon. With super countryside views across to Dartmoor and only 15 mins away from this makes for a rather perfect spot to enjoy homemade pizza, using locally sourced ingredients, cooked in a wood fired oven.

The Secret Stable is open on selected dates throughout the year and there is a choice of outdoor or indoor seating, so come rain or shine you can enjoy fresh wood fired pizza. 💚
