Just had the statistics through for last years rescue team call outs.

2024 saw us responding to 40 callouts, the highest total we've ever had in a year.
37 were deployed and 3 callouts stood down en route.

With over 8,000 volunteer hours from our team members. This includes 1,062 incident hours, over 4,500 hours of training and the remaining hours spent fundraising or other operational tasks to keep the team running.

Our busiest months were May, June, October and November, which were all equivalent to 2 callouts a week.

The most common injury we attended for callouts was lower leg or back injuries in 2024.

Furthest callout attended by our Search Dogs: Brecon Beacons
Did you know Search Dogs and Water-qualified team members are considered national assets and can be deployed anywhere in England & Wales.

The longest callout was 8 hours and 30 minutes.
The fastest callout was 22 minutes.
The average length of callouts was 4 hours.

7 of our callouts were in urban areas, 1 of which was to support the evacuation in Plymouth due to the unexploded WWII device.

In 2025, we aim to replace our aging Land Rover (Dart 5.1) at 32 years old, her age is beginning to show.
Having spent her entire life in operational service within Mountain Rescue England & Wales, she has had an exciting life as part of MREW, having been deployed to two unexploded WWII devices, attended a lot of Ten Tors events and clocked in many hours on callouts
Dart 5.1 will hold a special place in our hearts and is a big piece of history for MREW.

Can you help us and fundraise for your local Mountain Rescue team?

We are on call 24/7/365 to help those in need. If you would like to donate or find out more about the team and safety advice for Dartmoor, please go to the link below.
Thank you.

On a dull rainy day it’s always good to have something to look forward to. Drawing up plans for some hikes as part of this festival.

We've got a very exciting announcement to make this evening!

As of 2025, Dartmoor Walking Festival is now going to be the Dartmoor Outdoor Festival!

This change has come about as a result of our desire to take this Festival beyond just walking to showcase the best of what Dartmoor has to offer!

We're busy putting together a fantastic programme that includes workshops, climbing, live music, film showings, family friendly events (including our very own Festival letterbox trail!) and of course, plenty of walks!

Princetown will be the hub of the festival but rest assured, there will be opportunities across all 368 square miles of the moors to get involved with!

Watch this space for more details, including our brand new website, and we can't wait to tell you more about it in the coming weeks and months!

Gear up, stay prepared and stay safe!
Why are your rucksacks so large? Have you ever wondered what a North Dartmoor Search and Rescue member packs in their rucksack?

We pack for every eventuality in the field, but some basics should apply to all rucksacks, especially if you’re hiking and enjoying Dartmoor.
As team members, we carry personal first-aid kits and team first-aid kits, helmets, multiple spare layers, food, roll mat, and several means to navigate plus all the listed items below. A crucial reason we have large rucksacks is to allow us to carry additional team kit for call-outs such as Buff bags, Blizzard bags, Oxygen, other first-aid equipment, ropes, water equipment, and dog handler items (Yes our search dogs need PPE too). Plus much more depending on the situation.

Before you go out on the hill, don’t forget to pack these must-have items:

Map, compass and GPS
Fully charged mobile with emergency numbers
Fully charged power bank with cables
First-aid kit
Emergency shelter and emergency blanket
Whistle
Warm Layers (Even in summer - pack spare layers, Dartmoor is very unforgiving and the weather can change fast)
Waterproof jacket and trousers
Hat, gloves. Sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent
Head torch and extra batteries
Extra socks
Food and snacks
Hydration
Water filters or purification tablets
Cash
Spare laces

Did you know that we receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from amazing people like yourself to remain operational?

We are on call 24/7/365 to help those in need. If you would like to donate to help the team, please go to the link below.
Thank you.
