We’ve invited our MPS to join us at the the SFP Day of Celebration and Action at Westminster!
This is an opportunity for our MPs to meet their local food partnership, to hear about the work taking place across the county’s food system and to discuss key priorities for our food system.
We’re eager to welcome:
Julia Buckley, Shrewsbury
Helen Morgan, North Shropshire
Stuart Anderson, South Shropshire
Mark Pritchard, The Wrekin
Shaun Davies, Telford
..to speak about some of our priority areas:
1: A joined-up Food Systems Policy for Shropshire, which SGFP will support through consulting with stakeholders, researching and writing, in partnership with Shropshire Council and local academic institutions;
2: Procurement: Food security and Food Resilience for Shropshire People in an increasingly complex world;
3: Healthy food where it counts: local and seasonal procurement requirements, including broader school meal coverage and better quality food that reduces UPFs;
4: Planning: Support farmers to transition to more agroecological systems, and include stronger action surrounding farm-runoff linked to polluting Shropshire's waterways and landscapes, especially with increasing flood events.
To our MPs: We would love to meet you in Parliament to discuss how you can support our work - it’s making a difference across our food system in so many ways. The event will also showcase the work of our network’s 110+ food partnerships.
We are calling on the Government to support a food partnership in every local authority and a Good Food Bill in all four nations, to ensure that all UK residents can benefit from the support, innovation, and long-term solutions driven by the Sustainable Food Places movement.
We will discuss how food partnerships link up local authorities, community organisations, farmers, local businesses, and residents to roll out innovative projects improving the local supply of healthy and sustainable food in their area.
