Planning to spend today in my happy place, pottering about in the cutting garden by the greenhouse. Our last flower course of the season is being held here next month with lovely Sarah of Join her to learn the skills of traditional flower pressing, filling a press to take home and creating a floral artwork. A party to remember. Huge thanks to the wonderful team here for helping get everything ready, Jan from the always fabulous for (and I quote from the many thank you letters saying the same thing) "the best food at any 21st ever" and the lovely .willoughby.photography for the amazing photos that captured the evening perfectly.

Ideal houses for the most relaxing breaks. The Hyde sleeps 12 or 20 with a hot tub, tennis court and steam train. The Freeth sleeps up to 18 with a private indoor swimming pool. Both beautifully decorated, incredibly comfortable and surrounded by huge gardens and gorgeous countryside. We have some weekend availability in the Autumn and taking bookings for 2024. Keeping a watchful eye on the combine as the sun goes down. The recent rain is making this a challenging harvest; we have to grab the windows of opportunity to get the crop in whilst we can. The team were working late into the night yesterday and hopefully can get another good session in today before the rain returns tomorrow.

Pensons Restaurant have just released their menu for this Wednesday’s fish night (it is always finalised close to the day to take advantage of the very best seafood that is available from south west day boats). It looks incredible - such a privilege to have fish cooking and ingredients of this calibre in the area. They have a couple of tables left for this one-off event so don’t miss out. Huge well done to all the Pensons team whose lovely shiny red Michelin plaque arrived this week. This is such an achievement that requires real skill, dedication and hard graft week-in-week-out from everyone involved, both in the restaurant and behind the scenes. Being in the hospitality world has been really challenging over the last few years and isn’t showing signs of getting easier any time soon. But our crew keeping smiling and doing what they love brilliantly. Bravo Team Pensons 👏👏👏

Magical light in the woods today but they are beautiful at all times of year. Guests that come to stay at our holiday houses or at Michelin-starred are welcome to wander on the paths through the Estate woods. We have a weekend free at The Freeth for 19th May or 9th June (sleeps up to 18 and has a private indoor swimming pool) or The Hyde for the weekend of 2nd or 16th June (Sleeps 12 or 20 with hot tub, tennis court and lakes for wild swimming). We have champion long-jump sheep who regularly have taken a running leap and sailed over the ha-ha that divides the orchard from the garden. Fed up with them breaching our defences and munching all our favourite plants we have taken action and widened the sunken boundary. The flock is back in the orchard for the first time this season and we now have a standoff as they eye up the new challenge. I’m expecting an overnight incursion…
