2023 was tough for us at the Old Point House.
It felt like we spent the whole time dealing with little disasters. Drainage problems, flooding, tech failures, internet outages, random oil leaks from unknown sources which lead to closing over the half term holiday. If those weren’t enough, we endured endless storms which broke marquees, battered our summer sales and forced the cancellation of our famous regatta and Sea Lantern Parade.
But after all of this we are somehow still here, clinging on? That is only possible because of you guys.
It's simple at the end of the day:
We don't make food and events to make money, we make money to make more food and more events so we can stay here.
This past month we have been busy repairing and building, ready to take a run up and go again. Let’s see if we can get through another season 🤞
Yesterday we took the leap, reopening again and plan to be open every single day for lunch, and from the 10th of February Saturday evenings too (see opening times below).
We are planning some fantastic events.
One thing that 2023 taught me is that sometimes the weather is against you and all you can do is hang on and so treat every year here as potentially our last.
Some of the best events were scuppered by the weather last year but it won’t stop us booking them and planning the best season yet.
Afterall, It is a 424-year-old pub that we’re talking about, perched on the very edge of Southwest Wales in the middle of nowhere, down a long, broken road which gets submerged by the tide several times a month.
It was never going to be easy, maybe that’s what made it so appealing.
We’ve got a feeling in our bones that this year, year three of this barmy adventure, the sun will be shinning down on our little pub in the bay all summer long, ☀️
See you soon, from a forever optimistic landlord.
