World mental health day 🙏

Naming and recognising your child’s emotions and fears helps them to feel understood.

Top tips for encouraging your child to talk about their emotions or worries:
- Name the emotion and empathise - “I can see you are feeling frightened/ angry/ sad, that must be really difficult.”
- Be curious - “Why are you feeling worried?”, “What do you think will happen?”
- Make suggestions - “Some children worry that X is going to happen, do you think you are worried about that too?” “I wonder if you’re annoyed/ upset because…”
- Normalise - ““Lots of children get anxious about X. It’s hard isn’t it?” “I’d be upset too if…”
- Make it fun or rewarding - Talking about difficult thoughts and feelings can be hard work, scary or even boring! You could incorporate play into these chats (e.g. dolls, drawing) or you could suggest to do something nice once you have talked it through (e.g. watch favourite film).

Today we explored the universe! We visited salt dough planets in our forest space station. We strapped on our milk carton jet packs, loaded our water powered rockets and launched into space. 🪐🚀
