The seaside village of Mumbles is a great base for a holiday. Tucked away among the brightly coloured fishermen’s cottages you will find Bluebell Cottage. Within walking distance of the cottage there's a medieval castle, a traditional Victorian pier, amusement arcades, and a crazy (mini) golf course with a seaside theme. Along with a couple of small supermarkets, the village has independent bakers, greengrocers, fishmongers and delis, plus a thriving farmers market at weekends. There's also a good range of independent boutiques, gift shops, galleries, an amazing hardware shop and an M&S Food Hall, Tesco and Co-op.
For eating out, you'll be spoiled for choice, from high end restaurants like Pierre Bistrot on the sea front, to Johnnie's quality fish and chip shop, and the local legend which is Joe's ice cream parlour. Verdi's and Castellamare both offer good pizzas and Italian food with fabulous sea views. We've also got some good real ale pubs (try The Park Inn or the Ale House, or The White Rose) and wine bars.
There's plenty for outdoor lovers, with walks through Mumbles Hill nature reserve or along the coastal path (it runs the whole way round Wales) virtually on your doorstep. Close to home are beautiful sandy beaches at Langland and Caswell - both great for surfing as well as safe swimming. A short drive and you'll be exploring the lovely Gower peninsula, Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with award winning beaches like Three Cliffs and Rhossili, and miles of wonderful walking, cycling or horse-riding. The city of Swansea is just 20 minutes away, for a bigger range of shops and restaurants, plus cinemas, theatre, museums and galleries and a Leisure Centre with wave machines, water slides, soft play, gym and relaxing spa.
