Thought I'd share a few ( there's lots ) of the photos I've taken from the last couple of years up here in The Highlands. It really is a stunning place to visit all year round. Beaches, Lochs, Rivers, Caves, Woodland Tracks, Mountains & Glen's, Hidden Coves, Wildlife to mention a few. And if your really lucky you just might catch The Aurora Borealis too. The changing scenery as you drive around is magnificent all year round.
We have had a few enquiries for 2025 already so have decided to take provisional bookings for 2025 with no deposit required until February 2024. This means you can contact us with your dates I will book off those dates on the booking calander and then contact you in February. If you would like to provisionally book for 2025 please do get in touch.

It's always nice to know that guests have arrived safe and it's very satisfying to be told how lovely they think it is....

Hi Claire,

Just wanted to say we arrived today about 2.15pm and what an amazing place!
This is the most beautiful, peaceful and tranquil house and it has everything we and our dogs could want.
It is such a pleasure to arrive at a holiday home and not be just a little disappointed. This is better than the photos.
We are so thankful to be here for the week, but I wanted to let you know how happy we are already.

As with many area's of The British Isles we have up here some of the best places to see a variety of the not so common birds and plant species, many of our guests are keen wild bird enthusiasts. In May a couple came up from Devon/Exmoor and really got out there as many do to explore and find new things.
Here is their entry from the guest book back then I think you will agree the attention to detail and knowledge is brilliant. I feel I've learnt a lot from reading this and will keep an eye out for the future.

The walk to Poulouriscraig is an absolute must, stunning views back to the cottage. They must have been incredible, determined and resourceful people to have lived there. The walk from Invernaver ( park by the bridge ) up over the hill and find the Broch ( You won't see it till your at it ). Stunning views of archeology below. When we went a pink flower coated the bit of the hill - the scent was wonderful, across passed the Loch and ruins down to sheep fold and back through the massive sandy beach and dunes. Look out for sand martins at the beach nesting in river bank by the new path.
From the house bird feeders we've seen greedy starlings, greenfinch, goldfinch, siskins, rockdores ( a first for us ) dunnock, sparrows, wagtail, Further afield hooded crow, thrush, Wheatear ( on way to ruins ) several golden eagles, of course the ever singin sky larks, Curlew flew past cottage, Eider Ducks in the Cove, A Ringed Plover on Armadale Beach, ( Think they might have a nest on the rocks by the river ) We've walked the legs off the dogs & ourselves and been welcomed by Frank and Stone chat on the way to the beach.
The cottage is wondefull, literally everything considered for both humans ( I could take the bed home ) and the dogs. Ours wore their tags with glee on the beaches. We've had a wonderfull week, The bumble bees of the flowers at the beach are great, seen a species new to me a Heath Bumble Bee, Not quite the great yellow bumble I was hopein gto see. Milkvetch is also a lovely new plant.

If you haven't already have a look at our fab reviews in the guestbook section of our web page, I was just having a read through and here's one I'd like to share

Favourite Memories - Borgie Forest, Armadale Beach, John O Groats, Farr Bay, Durness Beach, Ceannabeinne Beach, Castle Varrich and the walk upto the ruins from the cottage.
From the minute we walked in we knew this was clearly the best holiday home ( dog friendly ) we've ever stayed at. The welcome basket of treats for us/wine and dog treats/dog towels/dishes etc. The kitchen is more than well equipped - Literally everything in the cottage goes above and beyond. We were warm and snug, the log fire a welcome addition with the weather we had. We were never short of walks to take the dogs within a short distance and when we stayed in the board games and your games room are very welcome. There is no requirement to provide all the additional extras that you do, but for us it catapults you to the top of our list. We didn't get to see the northen lights - but this is a good excuse to come back!. Thank You for everything Claire & Andy.

Took a walk out to Strathy Point Lighthouse today for the 1st time. Wow! Just stunning. We had been as far as the carpark before but as you cannot take dogs we have never been any futher. It's a lovely half mile walk from the carpark to the lighthouse through croft land with sheep lambs and Highland cows. Well worth a visit. You can't go in the lighthouse but can walk all round the area ⚓️🛟⛵️

On our way back from our walk in Forsinain this evening it was lovely to see the local herd on the move up close 🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌.
**Forsinain is on the A897 towards Forsinard from Melvich there are a couple of nice trail walks signposted in the car parking area.
