For the first time in its 27-year history, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will be making its penultimate stop in Scotland when it arrives in Oban on 12th July 2024.

The Clipper Race is renowned as one of the toughest endurance challenges on the planet, welcoming adventurers from all walks of life to take on the exceptional challenge of racing across the world’s oceans on board a 70ft yacht. This unique event sees teams battle extreme conditions on its eleven-month circumnavigation. The Clipper 2023-24 Race sees nine Scottish crew taking part over the eight legs of the sailing event, by the time teams arrive in Oban they will have sailed almost 40,000nm and crossed six oceans.

There are some fantastic events on in Oban whilst the boats are visiting, from tours on the Clipper 70 racing yachts to talks from advice on how to get involved with the next race. These photos do not do the kids tenacity justice. Today threw a little bit of everything at us from sunshine, torrential rain, gentle winds, to 30 knots!

There is nothing like learning to sail on the west coast for making strong and capable sailors. 💪

Our next RRYA Scotlandinstructor course is scheduled for the 12th August. RYA Scotland, through sportscotland funding, have the opportunity to provide subsidy for people completing RYA instructor qualifications in the small boat schemes.

How time flies when you are having fun. The summer is fast approaching, and we are so looking forward to getting everyone out onto the water again this summer.

We are delighted that Oscar will be joining us again during the summer as our Senior Instructor. Oscar is very lucky to be working with the award winning yacht services Argyll Yacht Rigger , so is never very far from a boat, even during the winter months. We are very grateful that Ian has very kindly let us borrow him for a few weeks, to make sure he can help Derek deliver our youth courses.

If you are looking for a rigger with an eye for detail and an understanding of the importance of meticulous work and great customer service, then I cannot recommend Argyll Yacht Rigger enough.

Oscar has found the perfect job for his skill set as a keen yachtsman with his tendency to request very high standards at every turn. And by the looks of their work, I think Ian has found the ideal work partner.

As the sun sets on Derek's 37th season teaching at the sailing school, we would like to thank everyone who has helped us to make another memorable summer on the water in Tighnabruaich. We have had a blast!

If you can ...........keep sailing until we see you again, hopefully next year!

In the meantime, Derek will pack up his fleet of dinghies, hang up sails away from our hungry mice, and then perhaps put his feet up..........or maybe not!
