We have been hosting songwriting retreats with Secret Coast Songwriters since March 2022. Today the first 2 volumes of songs written on those weekends at The Hollies are released on vinyl and CD. Renovation works #3: Aztec Camera 🔨

Aztec Camera is one of the lightest and cosiest rooms at The Hollies with views to die for. A lot of TLC went into the renovation works to get it looking as good as it does today. This was one of the best rooms when we bought the house, and naively we didn’t think it would need too much work and we could paint the wood panelling 😂 Needless to say, nothing in this room could be saved and it was a complete rebuild - but it was well worth the effort as it is such a beautiful room now, quite fitting for the spectacular views. Renovation works #2: the hallway & landing 🔨

By the time we bought The Hollies, many of the original features had been removed, but luckily a couple of stained glass windows remained! The first part of the staircase had been replaced with a cheap modern stairway to the landing.

As you can see, all the walls were stripped back to add insulation before being replastered and painted with Dead Salmon and School House White on the staircase and architraves. Cannot thank enough for that suggestion, it transformed the hallway and brought the whole house together. We found a company who made replica balustrades, and you cannot tell where the original ones end and the new ones start.

Renovation works #1: the entrance & door 🔨

The first thing you see, but one of the last things we did was renovate the entrance to The Hollies.

The original staircase had been covered up years ago and “enhanced” with 70s vibe tiled stairs. The old swing pub doors were another flashback to a bygone era, and the original storm doors had been joined to make one big heavy door.

We had new internal doors made by , and split the original storm doors and painted them in Bassoon. The original porch was restored and painted Hague Blue. Finally, the original stairs were rebuilt and clad with sandstone from London Stone. We are delighted with the end result!

Throwback to when we received the keys for The Hollies 🔑

A different view for you here! On this day 5 years ago, we received the keys for The Hollies. We were actually on holiday in Barbados at the time - we had planned to document the refurb but that all ground to a halt due to lockdown and we were also 400 miles away! Over the next couple of months, we are going to be sharing some photos of the work that went into creating The Hollies as we now know it.

You don’t often see photos of us on here, but here is a throwback to the day we brought our families to the Hollies for the first time. It’s fair to say they thought we were nuts for buying this derelict building!

A real highlight was being shown around by the previous owner Jimmy, who has sadly now passed away. Despite being almost 90 at the time, he was running up and down all the stairs and delighting us all with stories of the Hollies and the band he used to play in. It’s nice that the music connection has continued as the Hollies used to be THE place for live music.

To celebrate this special occasion, we are offering 5 nights for the price of 4 for all new 2024 bookings made before 31st May. How’s that for a thank you gift?

OPENING SPRING 2020

The Hollies is a new luxury, exclusive use holiday home in the beautiful village of Tighnabruaich. Ideal for house parties, special occasions and corporate retreats. Created from the shell of a much-loved local landmark building, The Hollies is being finished to the highest modern standards whilst retaining many of the features of this Victorian sandstone villa.

The Hollies has 8 bedrooms and can accommodate up 18 people. With a bespoke wooden handmade kitchen, incorporating modern appliances, adjoining a dining room with large dining table, The Hollies is ideal for large celebration meals.

The lounge has great views and an open log fire for relaxing days and evenings. Our games room has a large TV, games console and bar area. The downstairs bedroom has no-stairs access and a dedicated bathroom. Each of the 5 bedrooms on the first floor have views of the Kyles and are all en-suite. The 2 large attic bedrooms share a large luxury bathroom with a large bath and shower.

The Hollies benefits from state-of-the-art technology with smart security, smart heating, smart lighting, strong wifi, satellite TV and a music system throughout the public rooms. The Hollies aspires to be carbon neutral and uses a heat-pump heating system keeping our initial carbon-footprint very low.
