What an honour to be part of Emma and Barry's enchanting woodland wedding!

Nestled among our ancient woodland, their celebration embraced the magic of nature and fairies. They adorned our majestic oak with toadstools and natural decorations, arriving barefoot in perfect harmony with the environment.

The afternoon was truly magical, culminating in a simple celebration of homemade cake, a bit of bubbly, and sandwiches in our cider barn.

It's been a busy few weeks in the woodland! After the winter’s regenerative thinning, our wood is now heading to the sawmill. Our 240 acres of mixed woodland is home to a diverse range of trees, including softwoods like Larch, Sitka Spruce, and Douglas Fir, as well as hardwoods such as Oak, Ash, and Cherry.

Thinning the softwoods every five years is crucial for our woodland management. It introduces more light, encouraging our growing hardwoods and native vegetation to thrive.

We make the most of the wood on-site by using our small sawmill for projects like cladding barns and repairing fences and walkways. We also chip smaller branches for woodland paths and garden mulch.

While it’s always a bit sad to see the timber leave, we’re pleased it’s going to local producers for construction, woodturning, and crafts.

Last weekend we hosted yet another successful Southern Enduro race through our dedicated track in the woods. Congratulations to all the organisers and riders for making it another memorable weekend.

Mountain biking has always been a family hobby, and our mountain bike trail is available to anyone who holidays with us.

Over the winter we have been enjoying a glass or two of cider brewed from our heritage cider apple in our orchard. Looking at the amount of blossom this year, we are hoping it will be another bumper year!

Not only do we enjoy a glass of cider, we are also preserving the local varieties of cider apple.

Hidden deep in our woodland grows our ancient oak - hundreds of years old it oversees a small number of weddings each year.

Captured by photographer Sarah Hall moments before the bride's arrival this is one of our favourite shots. The bustling atmosphere has given way to the sound of nature. Lost in contemplation, the groom stands beneath the canopy of greenery, enveloped by the oak's timeless embrace.

In the heart of our 400-acre managed woodland is our sawmill.

Here we are fortunate to harvest timber from our own woodland and make into planks ready to use across the farm. These planks are destined to clad our Shiphams Barn by the gatehouse and any waste will be used for guests to enjoy in the farmhouse fire.

We are committed to treading lightly on our environment in all our activities - including limiting 'Log-Miles' for any construction across the estate.
