Quite pleased I looked up at the sky once more before heading in to warm up and luckily noticed the beams of light starting to appear. Here is a slideshow of photos in order (apart from the opening photo) taken between 10:15-10:50pm on Sunday 27/3/22.
Standfast! This is a word that would have echoed around the glen in the 19th century. Malcolm Gillespie was a famous excise man who became a thorn in the side of the local whisky smugglers. The walk, named after Gillespie takes the intrepid traveller around the base of the Ladder Hills in the Braes of Glenlivet and takes about 3-4 hours. For details of the walk, visit the Glenlivet Estate website.
Here is the full video of the weather outside if you’d like to watch it.
Here is the other full video from our earlier post where you can hear what Sean is saying. Enjoy!
So much for yesterday’s wild weather- that was just a warm-up. Today’s was a lot worse and it’s continuing over night! Here’s a video Sean took from early this morning. Will post some more photos tomorrow. Stay safe, warm and cozy!
A wild day of snowy weather in the Braes today. Not much visibility of the hills. Good to get back inside by the 🔥 with a cuppa ☕️ ☺️🥶❄️
Here is a 360 degree view of the Braes of Glenlivet. It was so peaceful and quiet with the only sound being from our snowshoes crunching in the snow. It’s nice to see the daylight lasting longer too! This was about five o’clock. Enjoy!
A nice walk from the Braes to the Queen's Cairn in Glenfiddich. The Cairn commemorates Queen Victoria's visit in September 1867 . . . 150 years ago!
Enjoyed a nice walk up Carn an t-Suidhe on Saturday. What started out as a beautiful, sunny day ended up becoming overcast and chilly as we neared the top of the hill. Glad we had a flask and packed our coats & hats . . . even wishing we had some gloves! Found a nice spot for our tea break, on the side of the hill sheltered from the wind. Took us about 6 hours as we often stopped to enjoy the scenery, flora & fauna, spotting: red deer, mountain hares, meadow pipits, wheatears, golden plovers & black grouse. We hope you enjoy our video!
A beautiful walk around the foot of the Ladder Hills and along the River Livet with my ghillie!
