What an amazing display of the Northern Lights tonight! 🤩 It was one of the longest and most spectacular displays I have seen. I watched them for almost an hour and a half but then had to go in for a cuppa 🥶 ☕️ Here are some of the highlights. Enjoy!

Our first winter snowfall 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❄️ We hope you enjoy these photo collages of the Cold Moon and yesterday’s sunset. The colours and light were so beautiful! No torch needed to go walking at night (though the nighttime camera mode makes the sky look a bit brighter than it really was).

An impressive display of the Aurora Borealis tonight. Wasn’t sure I’d manage to see them due to the low clouds above the hills but glad I went to take a peek when I did. The display must have lasted about 15-20 minutes. Enjoy!

What a beautiful mid summer’s night sky! So peaceful. The only sound was the bird chorus, especially the kleep-a-kleep of the Oyster Catchers. What other birds do you hear? 🐦 Took these photos & video at 12:45am on 23/6/22. Enjoy!

Quite pleased I looked up at the sky once more before heading in to warm up and luckily noticed the beams of light starting to appear. Here is a slideshow of photos in order (apart from the opening photo) taken between 10:15-10:50pm on Sunday 27/3/22.

Managed to capture the Northern Lights early this morning around 1 am. These were taken from a field near our house in the Braes of Glenlivet looking towards Ben Rinnes. Enjoy 🌌

Finally managed to capture the Northern Lights/Aurora Borealis with the night settings on my iPhone. I couldn’t see the various colours like in the photo with my eyes but could tell they were out as I could see the outline of the hills and there was a glow above them. These were taken just before and after 1am on October 4th. It was such a beautiful night, so quiet and peaceful. The stars in the night sky were amazing too! Now time to learn more about the night sky and how to use my camera settings. We are so fortunate to be located in the Tomintoul and Glenlivet Dark Sky Park in the Cairngorms. Enjoy⭐️🌌

Standfast! This is a word that would have echoed around the glen in the 19th century. Malcolm Gillespie was a famous excise man who became a thorn in the side of the local whisky smugglers. The walk, named after Gillespie takes the intrepid traveller around the base of the Ladder Hills in the Braes of Glenlivet and takes about 3-4 hours. For details of the walk, visit the Glenlivet Estate website.

Looking forward to seeing this video about Scalan Mill and Seminary refurbishment. Thought you might like to watch too, until the next time you are able to visit in person. It’s a walk we always recommend to guests. Put the kettle on for a nice cuppa or perhaps pour a wee dram. Enjoy!

Here’s something great to watch!

NEWSFLASH! We're going to have an attempt at doing a Facebook Live video this afternoon, hopefully with the cows and calves, starting sometime in the region of 3.30pm - 4pm. There's NO guarantee that the cows and calves will come very close to us, so we may end up diverting to the main herd if they won't play ball!

At this time of year we don't tell anyone who has calved yet, but feel free to ask us other questions while we're there and we'll try and answer.

A few photos from today’s extremely wild weather. Although it looks like we had more snow, it was just due to the heavy winds and drifting snow from the fields and hills, which keeps blocking the roads. There will be a couple of videos posting up soon too, hopefully. Stay safe and warm!

Here are some pictures of the latest snow storm from the past few days in the Braes of Glenlivet. Big thanks to the local farmers and the council snowblower who kept the roads open. Also to the Asda delivery drivers who managed to deliver shopping to our area. Well done!

04/02/2021

So much for yesterday’s wild weather- that was just a warm-up. Today’s was a lot worse and it’s continuing over night! Here’s a video Sean took from early this morning. Will post some more photos tomorrow. Stay safe, warm and cozy!

A wild day of snowy weather in the Braes today. Not much visibility of the hills. Good to get back inside by the 🔥 with a cuppa ☕️ ☺️🥶❄️

01/02/2021

Here is a 360 degree view of the Braes of Glenlivet. It was so peaceful and quiet with the only sound being from our snowshoes crunching in the snow. It’s nice to see the daylight lasting longer too! This was about five o’clock. Enjoy!

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! All the best for a wonderful 2018!
