How lucky are we, 29th Feb and our frogs have arrived for a frolic π. Having counted 14 I guess weβre in for a bumper year of frogspawn π. Spring must be in air at last π₯³π±π
Sunshine and snowy showers day π!
The Braes of Glenlivet is a place of peace and tranquility, a place of solitude, with historic links to ways of life long gone. The Bochal walk is a good example , with hut circles, a converted mill and views over to Scalan, dating back to the 1700βs, where an old catholic seminary and water mill sit at the foot of the snow capped Ladder Hills beyond. The Glenlivet Estate is a great place to explore and unwind - itβs right on our doorstep too πβ€οΈπ₯Ύπβπ¦Ί
Couldnβt resist taking this pic on my way back from Tomintoul today, our local Munro Ben Avon π. Always love this spot on the Snow Roads Scenic Route π
The perfect gift after a storm πβ€οΈ! A picture perfect moment for our guests to enjoy πππ¦οΈ
What a beautiful start to the day for our guests - autumn is such a magical time of year here β€οΈπππππ
Yesterdays adventure into the western cairngorms was very well sign posted π. Meall Chuaich is one of the lesser distinct Munroβs , easily accessible from the A9, but the views from the top were second to none on such a glorious winters day πβοΈπ₯Ύπβπ
Red squirrel antics π! Lovely to spot red squirrels frolicking amongst the trees today on our Boxing Day saunter - a real joy to stand and watch πβ€οΈπ²πΏ
We can always dream of a white Christmas again π€©πβοΈπ€
What a winter solstice π₯Ά! Thereβs hope of a frosty , white Christmas yet πβοΈπβ€οΈ
Good morning from Balneden π
A busy Sunday at Mountain Bike Trail Centre yesterday π΄. The trails are a 10 minute drive from Balneden, or a refreshing bike ride away for the more adventurous - that was us yesterday ππ. Popular with many of our guests, from families to adrenalin seekers, the trails offer something for all levels of ability . Thereβs even places to pause, catch your breath and take in the views, from north to south, including the , Cairngorm mountain and Balneden Steading tooπππ. And what better way to refuel your tired limbs at the end of the trail than with something yummy and your favourite hot or cold drink at the Centreβs cafe πβοΈπ§π₯π₯ͺπͺ. Highly recommended π
Rainbow magic π! Yesterdayβs sunshine and showers were a welcoming uplift after a few days of gloomy skies ππ¦π. Looking towards Cnoc Lochy and Glen Conglass with the Braes of Glenlivet somewhere hidden in the grey clouds beyond πππ
Not sure where spring, summer or autumn has gone but we were definitely back with snowy wintery weather this morning π©. Sounds like our local sheep think itβs crazy weather too π!
What a difference a week makes π! Today winter has returned, last week warm spring sunshine βοΈπ«π¨βοΈπ±
This little chap has been singing his heart out for the past two weeks πβ€οΈπΌ. Weβve spotted Mrs Dunnock too π!
Turn up the volume to listen to his sweet melody and a very noisy Oyster Catcher calling over head π
π€it wonβt be long before our guests can return to enjoy the sights and sounds of spring here at Balneden too ππ±π€π
Happy Motherβs Day to all those wonderful mums out there πβ€οΈ. There is a feeling of spring in the air, at last, here in the Cairngorms, another reason to celebrate π₯³π±π. Enjoy your day everyone π
A very wet, hungry, bedraggled brown hare, spotted outside our window yesterday afternoon. Sadly, the long, cold, snowy spell lasted a bit too long for many of itβs friends, we have found four dead ones out on our walks locally during the last week, and those that have survived are out searching for food during all hours of the day π₯Ίβ€οΈβοΈ
A very cute little pic of one of our neighbour to wish everyone a happy Valentineβs Day, whether with a loved one, or not πβ€οΈ. Enjoy your day π
Frozen and steamy best describes the River Aβan yesterday morning π₯Άπ€βοΈ. So tranquil and blissful too π
FreedomπβοΈ! Our friendly neighbour thankfully ploughed our 600m track yesterday, after a week of drifting snow. Thigh high snow is fun for a while but we really did need to stock up the shelves, so the sight of the plough was quite a relief, followed by an adventure to the shops, out along the SnowRoads ππ€βοΈ.
Yesterday at Balneden ..... one very wintery landscape with an ever changing view ππ€βοΈ
An armchair vista from the Snow Roads Scenic Route.
Balneden hunkers down on the snowy hillside, with BikeGlenlivet, the Braes of Glenlivet, and the Ladder Hills scanning the horizon beyond π. Hope you enjoy πβοΈπ΄β·π Stay safe everyone ππ»
Look whoβs come to visit ...... WELL, with no guests, somebody had to play in the snow , AND we needed someone to admire our wonderful wintery view too πβοΈβοΈ
What a difference a week makes ! π
The mountain tops are holding onto the snowy white duvets, but here in the NE Cairngorms a slow thaw has been taking place. With daytime temperatures reaching only a few degrees above zero, it still feels icy cold outside, especially with a good windchill π₯Ά
