We had a fantastic stay at Poppy Cottage during the half term holiday. The owner was helpful prior to our visit, particularly as we’d booked a last minute get away. During our stay, there was always space to park on the road outside the cottage so we didn’t need to make use of the designated parking space, but it was good to know there was always a space if needed. On arrival, the cottage was spotlessly clean, warm and a real home from home. The scones, jam and clotted cream were very welcome after our trip! The cottage is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need and has outstanding views of the surrounding countryside. We were quick to make use of the lovely log burner and our dog was living her best life lying in front of the fire every evening. The owners really have thought of everything, there are stair gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, a small cleaning kit which includes some washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets (which was useful because we’d forgotten these), a few logs and lots of useful visitor information provided. For our stay, it was just us as a couple with our dog, but the cottage would be well suited to 4 adults or a small family. The garden is secure so we could leave the doors open without having to worry about the dog which was reassuring. There is a friendly village pub next door (which doesn’t disturb the cottage at all) and a well stocked village shop (there is a supermarket in Dartmouth, just a 10 minute drive away). The cottage is well situated for visiting many of Devon’s lovely towns and beaches. We were blown away by how “dog friendly” everywhere was. Thank you for a lovely stay, we’d highly recommend Poppy Cottage!

Yesterday we saw the return of Blackawton’s International Festival of Wormcharming. It was good fun despite the miserable weather. Get booked for your stay in Poppy Cottage (the centre cottage next to the pub) ready for worm charming 2023.

For our furry guests… useful information 🐶 🏖

🏖️ To make sure everyone can enjoy having fun on the sand this summer, some of our Council-managed beaches welcome dogs at all times and there are restrictions on others.

South Sands in Salcombe is one beach where dogs are not allowed at any time between 1 May and 30 September inclusive (24 hour ban) except during Ferry operating times when dogs are permitted to cross the Sands on a lead to embark and disembark to and from the Ferry.

If you're planning to take your dog to the coast, these are the council-run beaches where dogs are welcome at all times:
🐶 Slapton Sands
🐶 Salcombe North Sands
🐶 Sections of Sugary Cove
🐶 Bovisand
🐶 Beesands

As well as the restrictions at South Sands, there are also some timed dog restrictions in place on specified beaches managed by the Council. These are:

😎 Mouthwell Sands at Hope Cove between 1 May and 30 September inclusive between the hours of 10 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. in any 24-hour period.

😎Part of Bigbury Beach between 1 May and 30 September inclusive between the hours of 10 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in any 24 hour period.
Dogs are welcome on these beaches above outside of these specified times.

If you are taking your dog to the beach, please make sure you have the means to pick up after your pooch 🐕

Rain didn’t stop play yesterday afternoon! Concrete delivery for extension and making good the pubs bin store base next door where we had to bring in electric and water supplies. Enough leftover to knock up the base for the heat pump base too!

Another sunny although chilly weekend! The roof is now back on and looking great! The nasty job of celotexing is nearly complete in the loft room annndd the paint is going on the front of the property! 👏

This weekend has seen the old roof stripped and new insulation, velux and most of the slates go back. Hope next weekend is as nice weather for them 🤞
