Armed Forces Week takes place from Monday, the 24th of June, to Sunday, the 30th of June 2024, and the week is an opportunity for us to show our support to the Armed Forces Family.

There are a number of events in Blackpool to celebrate the week and say thank you to our heroes, including the Armed Forces Garden Party. It’s being held on the 29th of June in Oxford Square, Lancashire from 12:30pm until 6pm and will include:

⛳️ Games and contests
🏰 A Kids Zone with bouncy castles, games and more
🍴 Food and refreshments
🫡 Military displays and demonstrations
😃 Community booths

A massive good luck to England who are playing their first game of the EURO 2024 tournament tonight against Serbia

If you want somewhere to watch the big game, head to Viva Blackpool Family Zone, where they’ll be showing all of England’s matches on Blackpool’s biggest LED screen.

There’ll also be a half-time penalty shoot out, snacks from the Viva Kitchen Menu, face painting, balloon modelling and much more.

It sounds like the perfect way to watch the match ⚽️

North Pier is an iconic symbol of Blackpool, and construction started on it in 1862.

It is the second of fourteen piers designed by Eugenius Birch and is the oldest of the remaining examples of his work still in use.

The Pier cost £11,740 to build and originally consisted of a promenade 428 metres long and 8.2 metres wide, extending to 16 metres wide at the pier-head.

The bulk of the pier was constructed from cast iron, with a wooden deck laid on top. The pier-head weighs an astonishing 760 tonnes, and it sees a regular 11-metre change in sea level due to the tide.

At intervals along the pier are hexagonal kiosks, built around 1900 in wood and glass with minaret roofs and decorative finials.

In 1903 the Arcade Pavillion was added at the entrance to the pier where it remains to this day.

It’s almost time for CapitalofDance, the world’s first fringe festival dedicated to dance and movement 💃🏼🕺🏼

Launching on Friday and taking place until the 14th of July, the festival will include over 140 events including live shows, street performances, workshops, and social dance events. These will cover everything from ballroom to contemporary and everything in between. All events are accessible and will be held in various venues around the town.

The new open-access arts festival aims to cement Blackpool’s position as the Capital of Dance by providing a whirlwind of rhythm and movement.

June is officially Pride Month here in Blackpool 🏳️‍🌈😃

Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde Pride Festival will take place on the 8th and 9th of June, with live music, entertainment, community events, a parade, street parties and so much more to look forward to 🏳️‍🌈

Artists such as Natasha Hamilton, Nikky Rush, Cheeky Girls, Baga Chipz and much more will be performing in the Princess Parade on Blackpool Promenade.

And, don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for the colourful, decorated shop windows in town as businesses take part in the Blackpool Pride Shop Window Competition 🏳️‍🌈

The Blackpool Air Show is set to return this summer 👏

The Red Arrows will perform on the 10th and 11th of August at this free event, with a brand-new exciting display to celebrate their 60th Diamond Season.

They’ll also be joined by the RAF Typhoon display team and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

It sounds like it’s set to be a fantastic day for Blackpool. We can’t wait 😃

This is part of The Blackpool Pride of Place Partnership’s prospectus, titled ‘Agenda for Action’.

Happy Bank Holiday Monday 👏

Have you ever wondered why we have two Bank Holidays so close together in May?

This Bank Holiday, the second of the month, exists because it used to be held on the day off in the Christian calendar after Whit Sunday and Pentecost.

Whit Sunday always falls seven Sundays after Easter Sunday, but since 1971, this has always been held on the last Monday of the month of May.

Northern Soul’s Dancing on The Carpet is back this weekend 💃🏼🕺🏼

Head along to the Comedy Carpet Blackpool at Blackpool Tower Festival Headland from 1pm to 6pm today and tomorrow to join in or simply to watch this fantastic event.

How many times have you walked past Blackpool Church - St John's without stopping to take it in?

The building was completed in 1878 and is Grade II listed. Garlick, Park and Sykes designed it in the Early English style, and it was restored from 2000 to 2006 when a community and conference centre were built, as well as a dedicated area for the homelessness charity Streetlife.

In addition to church services, there’s plenty happening inside Blackpool Church, including a Babies and Toddlers class, a youth group for secondary-aged young people and a Sunday gathering that’s open to all.

Good luck to everyone taking part in Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run today 🏃🏃‍♀️

The annual event has raised thousands of pounds for many local charities over the last 40 years and will begin this morning at 11am.

This year, runners will raise money for Trinity Hospice & Palliative Care Services, an organisation that provides specialist palliative care for adults and children who have life-threatening or limiting illnesses.

The event is Blackpool’s biggest 10k experience and participants will set off from north of Gynn Square at The Savoy Hotel, Blackpool, run along our famous Promenade past Blackpool Pleasure Beach Resort and back again to the finish line.

It’s the last month of Elmer's Big Parade Blackpool, the colourful trail of 30 large Elmer the Patchwork Elephant sculptures 🐘

Each sculpture has been uniquely decorated by local artists, with a herd of smaller Elmers that have been decorated by local children and young people through schools and youth organisations. Here at Blackpool BID, we think it’s looked fantastic.

This event has been organised to raise much-needed funds for Brian House Children's Hospice, the only children’s hospice on the Fylde Coast.

Keeping Blackpool’s town centre environment looking as good as it possibly can is important to us at Blackpool BID. Our dedicated Environment Team:

🗑 Provide daily cleaning services across the whole of the BID area.
🧽 Remove graffiti and flyposting.
❌Take appropriate action regarding illegal fly-tipping.
🫧 Clean town centre street furniture.
🏢 Clean the shopfront of empty premises.

We’ve also recently invested in upgrading our cleaning equipment and supplies to help us continue to keep Blackpool Town Centre clean, attractive and welcoming for everyone.

⚽ The final of the Blackpool Cup, an International Football Celebration for boys and girls, will take place on the 4th and 5th.

🎤 The Eurovision Fan Zone at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Resort will be a great place to watch the Eurovision final live from Sweden and cheer on your chosen country.

💃 Blackpool Dance Festival returns to Winter Gardens Blackpool between the 18th and 31st of May.

🎵 The May Weekender is on from May the 24th to 26th at The Blackpool Tower and promises to be a weekend of entertainment, music and fun.

This morning, the Blackpool BID team, along with other businesses in the town centre, spent time supporting SEA LIFE Blackpool with their beach clean-up 🐚

This is part of the mission to keep our coastline clean; the aim was to collect more litter in one day than in the whole of last year.

An estimated 26 million tonnes of plastic pollution ends up in the oceans each year, where it chokes, entangles and poisons marine life and kills millions of marine creatures each year.

It was fantastic to see so many people and businesses coming together this morning to keep Blackpool’s beach clean 😃

Today, on International Dance Day, we’re celebrating Show Toppers Dancewear of Blackpool & The Fylde Coast, the only dance shop in Blackpool 💃🕺

We met with owner Karen, who’s worked in the dancewear industry for over 40 years. She told us how Show Toppers specialises in a range of different items, including dancing costumes, shoes, accessories and much more.

They attract customers from all across the North West, as there are few dance specialist shops remaining. Many closed down during Covid, and sadly never reopened.
