It's the Spring Equinox πŸŒ“πŸ’today which marks the official start of Spring! There are a couple of things that are most associated with this time of year - and if you pop to any of the shops you will not be surprised to discover that one of those things are Eggs! πŸ₯š
The other one is traditionally Hares (as opposes to Rabbits πŸ‡ which we see more commonly used to represent this time of year).
So I wanted to share with you a very short video of this lovely Hare who ran right by my feet outside the cabin - It was huge and honestly I thought it was a dog initially! πŸ˜† However, I grabbed my phone just in time to catch him having a little snack and to see him lollop off into the distance...
I am never disappointed by the wildlife in Wales though - and whether you're all about nature, scenery, flora & fauna or more about seeing the gorgeous array of natural critters living in the area, you will surely never be disappointed! 😊

Its so true isn't it? A staycation used to be the better value option versus going abroad, til covid blew things out of the water!
Only a couple of years ago, Β£500 used to get you a night at a very high end hotel, but now it might only get you a caravan with an al fresco bath in some parts of the UK!
πŸ™ˆπŸ˜…πŸ˜
However, we've said it before and we will say it again, we NEVER want to be part of the problem here so, even despite the escalating energy costs and industry wide price hikes over the past few years, we have only ever raised our prices by Β£10 per night MAX.
In fact, lately, since energy costs have stabilised a little, we have actually DROPPED most of our prices - especially because for those of youbooking via Airbnb, you also pay them an additional 20% on top of the nightly rate. So to keep things at a great level of value for You, we have LOWERED our prices to PRE-COVID days!
So please consider value for money before you shelve out your hard earned cash! If people keep paying ridiculous prices for something that cost a quarter of the price only a couple of years ago, it will only perpetuate the problem even more!
We believe in providing great value at realistic prices and, if that sounds like just your cup of tea, just get in touch to book your next holiday breakaway with us πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘Œ

Following the truly sad news of Dave's passing yesterday, I wanted to share with you the opportunity to catch one of the last TV episodes he recorded with Si as he visited North Wales & Snowdonia. This will be aired next Tuesday on BBC 2 at 7pm.
The Hairy Bikers

The Bikers explore north west Wales and discover new and surprising local food producers.

Snowdonia is a particularly magical area - and it's quite easy to believe that magical, mythical creatures could once have lived there (and perhaps still do!) when you spend time in some of the incredible environments this relatively small area has to offer.

P.S. the village of Maentwrog (roughly pronounced: mine-too-rog), mentioned in this article, is only a few short miles away from the cabin, so if you want to go hunting for legends, you're very well placed to do so when you stay there! :D

Wales is home to some of the last remaining examples of temperate rainforests in Europe.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ JANUARY PRICES SLASHED⭐️⭐️⭐️

At this time of year, not only do you need a break after all the Christmas madness, but we know that you also need a good bargain, and so we're rolling our prices back...
All the way to 2015!

Remember back before Lockdown when things cost a reasonable amount of money?

Yeah. So do we.

And we liked those times, so you know what? We're bringing them back! πŸ₯³πŸ’ͺ

We don't know about you but we're fed up with seeing places that now cost twice as much as they used to just a couple of years ago, even though the accommodation is just the same as it always was... and we don't want to be part of the problem here, so we're not going to charge extortionate rates just cause everyone else is!

What that means for you, is that, as a special gift, during January, our nightly rate starts from as little as Β£50 per night!! And if you can work remotely, this means you can get some work done AND have a scenic break for a super low price!

So if you're aching to get away, then get in touch now❗️

Ts&Cs: 2 night stay minimum; sleeps max 3 people; No pets; cleaning fee applies to all stays; Prices= Β£50 per night Sun - Thurs, Β£70 Fri & Sat; Valid for Stays during Jan 2024.

Mabon…Welsh God or Autumn Equinox?

I’m away this weekend honouring Cerridwen with a bunch of Druids on the shores of Llyn Tegid. So won’t be able to post much about the autumn equinox/Mabon stuff.

So here’s just a gentle reminder that β€œMabon” is the name of a Welsh deity. His name, β€œMabon ap Modron” means β€œthe great son of the great mother”. Modron isn’t an alternate name for him…nor the seasonal celebration…it is the name of his mother.

Mabon was stolen away from his mother as just a babe, and because of this many draw parallels between his tale and the myth of Persephone/Kore going into the underworld. Of course Persephone’s mythos is used as an explanation for the disparity between the darker and the lighter halves of the year.

But Mabon’s myth does not specify his abduction and imprisonment had any seasonal connotations. In fact, he wasn’t trapped in Caerloyw for just a season, it’s implied he was imprisoned for quite a long, long time. So long indeed that only the most ancient of animals knows where he is.

And so there isn’t anything at all really to link Mabon with the autumn equinox in traditional Welsh myth and lore. The idea that he represents the equinox is a modern invention.

I don’t particularly mind folks referring to the autumn equinox as β€œMabon”. All I ask, as a person born and bred in Wales, whose first language is Welsh, is that if you insist on using Mabon as the name of the equinox…at least learn the correct pronunciation, and maybe familiarise yourself with who Mabon is a little.

Otherwise it feels rather disrespectful to the culture the name is drawn from.

GREAT NEWS!! Now that Summer Hols are over, we have a little more availability! Having been totally full for July and August, and turning people away, we now have a few more dates open in the calendar for you!

Whilst weekends are always busy (get your bookings in fast!), midweeks have more availability at this time of year ++++ and rates are reduced Sun - Thurs πŸ˜€πŸ‘

If you can work remotely, this means you could swap your same 4 walls at home for somewhere you can enjoy a beautiful morning or evening walk in the woods, hills or even on the beach, to nicely round off your work day!

If you are not tied to the standard working week, you can take advantage of both lower prices and fewer people in the area if you stay between Sunday and Thursday πŸ‘

So if you fancy getting away from your usual scenery, and out onto glorious North Wales & the Snowdonia National Park instead, just get in touch! πŸ’™

Ancient sites such as this Dolmen, dating back around 4000 - 6000 years!) are nestled about all-over the countryside in Snowdonia - many are hidden in plain site!

This one is just 2 minutes walk off the main road in Dyffryn Ardudwy and here you will find 2 ancient Dolmens - which are neolithic burial chambers. They are quite a site to behold, especially when you consider how people with only the most basic of tools and resources managed to get the stones in place!

They are also places of magical energy, being such ancient sacred sites. So why not spend some quiet time here, enjoying the peace and tranquility as you sit amongst the stones of our ancestors

On a clear day, Eryri (Snowdon) is visible for miles.

Here you can see the long sandy stretch of Harlech Beach in the middle of the photo and Snowdon (in a heat haze πŸ”₯) provides a wonderful backdrop for the view.

Whilst taking some photos, we we also treated to some action in the skies as fighter jets from the local airbase were in training - quite a sight (if you can catch them - they are often VERY fast!)

So check the skyline when you are out and about- you never know what you might see πŸ™‚

No it's not a Hollywood disaster movie!

Tbt to August 2019 when our nearest Waterfall (which is on National Trust land) went absolutely titsmental after a big summer downpour!

This was absolutely incredible to witness first hand! Whilst we are lucky enough to have some beautiful waterfalls in Snowdonia, they tend to be a lot more impressive after a big rainfall.

So if you plan to go and see waterfalls on your next visit to Snowdonia, you may want to choose a time when there's been lots of rain

Want to climb Snowdon? Be mindful where you park! During the holidays Snowdon itself is like a human motorway - it's massively busy and over crowded - yet Snowdonia has hundreds of peaks to summit! Do your research and don't just choose the tourist traps :) There's so much more to this National Park than just this one mountain!

Highway teams were seen removing cars from a stretch of the A5 in the tourism hotspot.

Booking platform messages are heavily monitored and so we can't make suggestions or share our personal details or social pages on there, as they ofc want to keep all bookings on their sites! However, on here we can let you know that we can take bookings without the guest mark up that is passed on to the you guys! Just message us if you would like to make a reservation :)

Unlike most of the accommodation in the UK, since lockdown we've NOT raised our prices to unaffordable levels... (I don't know about you but I have seen some truly shocking price increases in the past few years!)

In fact, we've only increased our nightly rate by Β£10 on the more popular dates, just to try to cover the increase in energy costs which we're all feeling. We don't think just cause everyone else is doubling their prices due to loss of earnings during covid, that we should too.

We have always believed in providing great value accommodation and nothing has changed! In fact, we know that despite (or perhaps because of) the cost of living squeeze, you need a holiday more than ever! And we want to make sure that is a great value holiday!

So, just to refresh you, prices start from (an extremely great value for up to 3 people!) Β£75 per night.

There is a 2 night minimum stay on all dates and during Bank and School holiday periods this is usually longer.

If you would like to check any dates, there's a live availability calendar on Airbnb - please note that they do charge an additional 20% fee to guests on top of our nightly rate so if you check prices on there they will be much higher than quoted here.

For reference the cabin sleeps maximum 3 people, we don't accept any pets (No, not even 1, small, well-behaved dog!) and we don't have a hot tub! (As ppl always ask that!).

However, you do have all of gorgeous Snowdonia to explore with mountains, beaches, forests and fun for miles! If you need to do something that's really good for your soul, book a getaway and soak up the great outdoors in stunning Snowdonia! πŸ’™

Our Story

Lovely, cosy little Log Cabin in Snowdonia for rent. Perfect for 2, can sleep 3… Ideal for active getaways or romantic breaks. Book now for just 1 night's deposit! Our self catering cabin was fully refurbished at the start of the 2016 and has a fully equipped kitchen & living area with TV & Freesat, 2 bedrooms - 1 double & 1 single and a shower room. We are very fond of our little cabin and have aimed to create somewhere that is well equipped, welcoming and, as many of our guests say, a Home from Home. We certainly love spending time there as an escape from everyday life and we hope you’ll love it as much as we do! When you book with us we send you a little checklist of what to bring with you - we do ask that you provide your own bedding and linens - and if you don't want to take care of your own cleaning then we can arrange a cleaner at an additional charge. Please see the Photos tab on the page for loads more pictures of the cabin and the area. Located in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, halfway between Barmouth & Porthmadog, the cabin is close to many tourist attractions: Mount Snowdon is just over 20 miles away, Coed Y Brenin is only 3 miles down the road and Portmeirion is a 20 minute drive away. It’s perfect territory for Walkers, Mountain Bikers and Adventure Seekers (Zip World is great for Adreneline junkies!) or if you just want to relax and get away from it all there are beaches, steam trains, castles and country pubs all within easy reach. There's no Wifi and limited mobile signal on many networks - great if you want to get off grid for a little while! There's also a pub, small shop, launderette & playground on the site itself. If this sounds like your sort of place, please Message us for more info and available dates. Thank You. Standard Rate is Β£75 per night (excludes Xmas/New Year). 1 night’s deposit required upfront to secure your booking, balance due 1 month ahead of your stay. 2 night minimum booking required. *CLOSED THROUGHOUT NOVEMBER* Please note there’s no Hot Tub & sorry, we don't allow pets.
