🐋 MEET A MINKE 🐋

👀 This is Kasey, catalogued as whale . Kasey has a distinct dorsal fin, with three large notches along the trailing edge of the fin. When Kasey was first seen in 2000, there were just the upper two large notches in the fin with the third appearing the following year.

🌊 First recorded in August 2000, Kasey has been seen 38 times between 2000 and 2020! Kasey is a regular visitor to the
waters around Mull. In 2018, Kasey was spotted corralling fish just 20 metres off Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, the most westerly point of mainland Britain and a fantastic site on our Hebridean Whale Trail. A fantastic sighting showing you don’t need to go on a boat to be able to capture photographs for the catalogue.

⭐ Thank you to everyone in our Whale Track community for reporting sightings of minke whales and sending in photographs to try and ID the individuals. The Minke Whale Catalogue, which documents over 300 minke whales recorded in the Hebrides, is a testament to the power of citizen science and the contributions made by the Whale Track community to our understanding of these awesome creatures. Reece and Becky joined us this evening for a sunset prosecco cruise , they were lucky enough to get the boat to themselves , a rare treat ! we left Malpas and headed down river taking in the sights along the way . Headed down to St Antony’s , the wind dropped away around 8pm . It wasn’t the best sunset I’ve ever seen , but a lovely time was had :) thankyou Reece and Becky .
