Hurricane Help - let’s return & rebuild!
The effects of the recent Hurricane Beryl have been devastating to many Caribbean islands, significantly impacting the environment, landscape, and, most importantly, the people and communities. Now more than ever, we must support these beautiful islands that so many of us enjoy yearly.

While it’s not appropriate at this time to market those areas in the usual ways, with images of golden sands and palm trees, it is vital to highlight our role in bringing some sustainable tourism to those areas. With this in mind, we have donated to Hope Fleet, in collaboration with the Seven Seas Cruising Association, who are helping on the ground with immediate action necessary on the islands.

Our boats will be returning to the Caribbean this coming winter, with their itineraries carefully planned and amended to avoid putting extra pressure on the infrastructure of the areas worst affected and to support the vital tourism industry of the islands. Our island agents have informed us that they will be ready to welcome visitors back at the start of their season.

Summer postcards from the Arctic Circle…❄️

We were delighted to have been joined by Paul Boomsma onboard Valiente for a week of sailing in Svalbard. It’s currently the polar summer, meaning the sun never sets, and the usually snow covered landscape looks slightly different. At this time of year the Arctic tundra truly bursts to life, and is the best time to spot wildlife, from migrating seabirds to whales, Arctic foxes, and even the occasional polar bear!

Sailing is the most sustainable way to experience all that Svalbard has to offer, travelling in smaller groups, reaching areas inaccessible to larger ships, and leaving nothing in our wake. From hiking through glaciers, exploring ghost towns, and warming up with Arctic beach bonfires, this is a summer holiday like nowhere else on Earth!

Learn more about the history of the Brixham trawler… 📖

The Brixham trawler, developed in Brixham, Devon between the late 18th and early 19th centuries, revolutionized the fishing industry. Featuring deep keels and heavy displacement, they enabled fishermen to venture further into rougher seas, catching larger hauls than ever before. With their sleek profiles and distinctive ochre sails, Brixham trawlers became icons of British fishing, and by the late 1800s, over 3,000 of these vessels were in use across the UK.

However, the rise of motorized fishing boats in the early 1900s led to the decline of the Brixham trawler, and today only a handful of these historic boats remain.

Pilgrim of Brixham, built in 1895, is now the oldest surviving Brixham trawler. Painstakingly restored by volunteers, she is run by the Pilgrim Heritage Sailing Foundation, dedicated to preserving her legacy for generations to come. We’re incredibly proud to have Pilgrim of Brixham as part of our fleet, offering guests the chance to sail with and support such a vital piece of maritime history.

Step onboard tall ship Iris ⛵️

Just as beautiful below decks as above, Iris was originally built in 1916, and now spends her summer exploring the islands of Denmark, the Swedish coast and the Estonian archipelago.

Below decks, Iris has been carefully transformed from her previous life as a cargo vessel, making her communal spaces generously sized and comfortable. A large sofa area and a bespoke dining table sit in the amidships and thanks to the ceiling hatches, it receives plenty of natural daylight, making it pleasantly bright. Iris can sleep 10 guests in 5 private twin cabins with shared bathroom facilities.
For extra entertainment, Iris is also the proud owner of a cooled beer tap, an extensive games collection, an accordion, and a guitar! She has a stand-up paddle board for coastal exploration on taster voyages, and if guests are looking for that historic tall ship experience, she even has a few hammocks too.

Our sailing family! We’re a close knit team at VentureSail and love nothing more than getting the opportunity to experience all that our boats have to offer, whilst forging connections with the passionate crews who run them. Today was a special day as we visited tall ship Florette in Falmouth, marking the first time she has sailed in UK waters in her 102 year history.

A family run boat through and through, Florette has been sailed by three generations of the same family! Captain Ron grew up onboard and has continued the seafaring tradition with wife and First Mate Nicole alongside their two daughters. To live aboard and care for a historic wooden boat takes plenty of hard work and dedication, but the gift of sharing the traditions of heritage sailing and life at sea with guests makes it all worthwhile. We’ve been lucky enough to sail with Florette across the Caribbean as well as her home sailing grounds in Southern Italy, and each guest is truly welcomed onboard to become part of the Florette sailing family.

We made some friends on board Florette in Sicily! 🐬 Sailing with dolphins never gets old - especially when you’re joined by such a friendly pod.
