We’ve had it all this week.
Storms (due), hot sun, wind and fog. There’s some good news. At various points in the week it’s great for walking, biking, sailing, exploring, sun bathing and sea swimming - swipe 👉🏻to see how clear the water is.
Definitely weather for making the most of .
And when the storms roll in you can light the fire and settle down with a film or good book 😌

Closed since 2014, we’ve driven past this beautiful little church for years and now, at last, we’ve been inside.
Empathetically restored it is a beautifully elegant, simple space, transporting you to a bygone era, where brass candle holders lit your hymn book.
If you’re journeying to the popular villages of St Mawes and Portscatho drive for a few miles off the main road and take a moment to visit this magical place carpeted with cyclamen and primroses in Spring.
Don’t miss the stunning stained glass in the South Transept by Queen Victoria’s glazer or the separate two storey bell tower in the churchyard.

Weekend plans?
Mine will involve this view, a cup of tea, and maybe a book. But, that would involve me deciding which I am actually going to finish of the three I have on the go.
Either way, with two birthdays celebrated this week r&r is a top priority!
Hope you also have something to look forward to.

We're confident this gives you the best chance of finding somewhere you love AND having a great break.

I love hearing the stories of our guests’ adventures. This week I think the highlight had to be a day trip to the Isles of Scilly, flat calm on the Scillonian and accompanied by bow riding dolphins ❤️

Be it Tintagel, the Minack, Rick Steins, St Ives or the Isles if Scilly (that’s every corner of Cornwall) or walking miles and miles of the coast path our guests always do some AMAZING things!

Today, my amazing was crystal clear sea, beautiful clean surfing waves and low tide on the north coast.

Have you got amazing plans for your next trip?

Sunset, quite possibly the best time of day in the garden during the summer. Just sitting, watching the setting sun throw it’s rose tinted magic across this Cornish idyll whilst the swallows dip and dive over the lake.

Step outside and indulge in a morning coffee amidst the blooms or enjoy a lazy afternoon reading in the summer house overlooking the lake.

From captivating roses to delicate geraniums, you’ll find peace and tranquility in every corner of the garden. It's the ideal backdrop for a restful break and I think, June is the time to enjoy the 4 acres of garden at its best.

Charlestown has the most fascinating and slightly sad history. Transformed by Charles Rashleigh from small fishing village into a centre for transporting copper ore from local mines. He was swindled twice and bankrupted as a result, dying a tenant of the manor house he once built and owned. Today Charlestown is a mecca for Poldark fans, a great sea swimming spot and has more than it’s fair share of good places to eat. A great spot for an evening out.

Just a regular Tuesday night, golden hour on the Percuil river.

A paddle board is a great pway to explore all the creeks and rivers which make up the Carrick Roads. We set off from Percuil Boatyard where you can hire SUPs or kayacks from Roseland Paddle and Sail. There’s lots of little beaches to stop at and if you’re feeling adventurous you can paddle down river to St Mawes.

All of a sudden everything is verdant.
There’s a beehive of activity in the garden. Courgettes, squash and pumpkins in, bean and pea frames built, potato leaves are up, tomatoes and aubergines potted on. Oh and we have artichokes!
Stealing the show: gunnera, hostas and irises by the long hydrangea border and the white camssias poking there pretty white heads above the meadow.

Perfectly placed for exploring all of Cornwall. It’s something our guests say all the time.
Our last guests’ highlights were Tintagel, a boat trip around Lands End and the Minnack theatre.

With or without dogs, by yourself, with a friend or partner in crime, for a few nights or several, you choose. One things for sure, you will be going home feeling relaxed and refreshed and having explored some beautiful parts of Cornwall.

This week marks a milestone.

We hosted our last Covid postponed guests, originally planning to stay in 2020 they eventually made it this week, all the way from Australia.

It's a long flight, they were coming straight here from Heathrow, I was expecting tiredness and jet lag! So I was delighted to receive this text from them the next day.

If you're in need of a few nights rest, some beach time or fancy a wildlife watching boat trip click the link in our bio!

Why not celebrate the King’s Coronation here on Friday 12th May with free entry to the gardens and a special “Coronation Cream Tea” (sweet or savoury) served all day in the Tea Shed. will be here as a venue for your “bring your own picnic”. See you then.

It’s taken years (not exaggerating) to get a shot of this in flight. It really shouldn’t of done as it’s regularly snacking on our fish 🤦‍♀️

There’s quite a bit of wildlife for you to spot in the garden while you’re here: hedgehogs, lizards, stoat, voles, moorhen, ducks, kingfisher, dragon flies and of course the heron! Oh and the occasional deer! Oh and not to mention the garden birds…..

Stretching out the weekend. Now the evenings are lighter it’s perfect for Tavola at Portscatho.

We park at Rosevine and wander along the beach and coast path to get there. Delicious food, pizza, but often with chicken or pasta specials. We were entertained by the huge seal whose often at the bottom of the slip, popping his head up to keep an eye on the comings and goings. Or perhaps he was waiting for his takeaway!

Beautiful Spring walk this morning, a loop from Bohortha to the Fal and along the river to Porth.

Hedgerows laden with wildflowers, paths framed with primroses and bluebells and the air heavy with wild Angelica.

This is a smaller section of the walk around St Anthony’s head which, I think, is our guests’ favourite.

Have you got a favourite Cornish walk?

An adventure down west today.
There’s been an easterly for a few days = not good for sea swimming so ventured to Penzance Lido.
I should declare an ulterior motive.
There is a geothermal pool, perfect for warming up (the main pool is currently 13 degrees centigrade) but mainly, it was Mackerel Sky Seafood bar.
I’ve been wanting to go for years (I don’t think that’s an overstament) and it was worth the wait!
Fantastic food followed by a mooch around Newlyn and fascinating talk with Sea Moor Cornwall.
It was the best reminder of everything wonderful about Cornwall.

It’s time.

First asparagus harvest.

This is the third year for our new asparagus bed, we used three year old crowns lots of sand and well rotted muck.

If you’re staying with us over the next few months you’re in for a treat!

So much for oak before ash we’re in for a splash! Though you won’t hear me complaining, we really need the water.

Between the ‘splashes’ the sunshine has been warm and is bringing everything along nicely in the garden - we’re about to harvest the first asparagus! There’s also plenty of purple sprouting and kale, both delicious.

I’ve been thinking about how we can keep you up to speed with what’s available to harvest when you stay. Perhaps a little hand drawn layout of the veg garden, highlighting what’s good at the moment which we leave for you in the cottage - what do you think?
