Here are a few photos from this week - we’re certainly experiencing ‘weather’ in many forms! However Spring is slowly arriving bringing with it some early birds who have made the journey back from Africa. Chiffchaff’s singing in the garden, one of the Ospreys is back on the Dyfi and Wheatears on the coast at Tywyn. The next few weeks will bring many more species back to our lovely woodland.

A weekend to kick off the year, with plenty for all the family! Travel by train to Abergynolwyn, where there will be activities for children to enjoy: take a peek behind the scenes in the blockpost, or have your photo taken with the Easter Bunny. Take time out for a cup of tea and a cake from the cafe, as you watch the trains.
You can also take an unusual opportunity to have a special short ride behind diesel loco No.9 ‘Alf’, who usually only pulls goods trains. Don’t forget to take part in our i-Spy quiz on the railway, as you travel to and from Abergynolwyn. Extra trains will be running, giving you plenty of opportunities to break your journey and enjoy your day.

This is a message from the Talyllyn Railway
The Community Council has informed us that Dolgoch Falls is closed for the foreseeable future due to a large tree coming down in the adverse weather we are currently experiencing - we are very sorry to our passengers who were looking to do the Waterfalls walk from Dolgoch Station, but this is now not possible. Please do not attempt to do any of the walking routes around the Dolgoch area.
You will still be able to alight at Dolgoch Station, but we currently do not know exactly where the tree has fallen or what walking routes it has blocked off. We will post updates regarding the re-opening of the Falls as and when we are informed.
The season has definitely turned to autumn despite there still being a significant amount of green around the waterfall. However it's led me to thoughts of 2024 and I've therefore added next year's dates to the website this evening.

Today we took a drive up through Snowdonia to Portmeirion. We booked Sunday lunch (£30pp for two courses) in the beautiful Art Deco Dining Room with amazing views over the Estuary. We were able to access the village (normally £18 per adult) from 11.30am for as long as we wanted to stay. Today it looked and felt just like the Mediterranean 😎🌞 We highly recommend it!

**NEWSFLASH**
Early this morning our suspicions were confirmed. From having over a dozen squirrels under the bird feeders a couple of years ago we now only see the occasional one. We pondered the possibility of Pine Martens predating them and we have seen Goshawks from the window, both natural squirrel predators…….but this morning who should trot by but this smart fella!!! (Library photo sadly as the camera was already in the car) WE HAVE PINE MARTENS!!!
We were delighted when UNESCO awarded the Slate Landscape of North West Wales World Heritage Site status. The Talyllyn Railway is one of the six components of the site.
Today we wandered up to Dolgoch Station, rode the rails up to Nant Gwernol and walked up to Bryn Eglwys Quarry. The quarry once employed 300 men and in 1863 the railway was built to transport the slate. The walk follows the steps of the quarrymen and comes back down to the village of Abergynolwyn built to house the workers.
We took a short stroll back to Abergynolwyn Station and caught the next train home.
Our cottages are a perfect base for walking in spectacular scenery. There are several maps and guides available for guests to refer to. Today we chose the Walk above Picnic Island up the road in Aberdyfi. From the top there are wonderful views of the whole of Cardigan Bay. Here are some photos to whet your appetite ⛰️⚓️🐑
I highly recommend Let's SUP if you're new to paddleboarding or just want an estuary tour. It's definitely worth looking them up.

We've just had an amazing 6 days at Dolgoch Holidays . Despite storm Noa! We've had wind, rain, hail, snow (!), And sunshine! Sometimes many of those in one day! We've had gorgeous sunrises and sunsets as well as trips on the Talyllyn Railway a visit to Harlech castle and Porthmadoc, Aberdyfi beach, the Dyfi Osprey Project and a climb up bird rock.
I've tried to include 2 pictures from each day to show the variety of a holiday here! (Thursday may have sneaked 4 pictures! 😉).

September is glorious and there is still some availability!
This morning we had a fabulous walk close to Llyn Mwyngil (Talyllyn Lake) a ten minute drive from our cottages, followed by a ‘coffee with a view’ at the Ty’n y Cornel Hotel.
