The Llanfendigaid Estate has been owned by the Nanney-Wynn family and their forebears since the earliest records began in AD 1241. An estate map from 1780 shows that the original estate stretched along the Welsh coast from Harlech in the north to Aberystwyth in the south. However, since the collapse of many of the great British estates in the 1920s, Llanfendigaid Estate has gradually reduced in si

ze to a much smaller patch in the Snowdonia National Park on one of the most attractive stretches of the Welsh coastline. We have four exceptional properties available, all of which have recently been listed by CADW as Grade II* which is only given to historic houses of exceptional interest and quality. All properties have shared use of a 28' x 14' indoor heated swimming pool. There is ultra-fast broadband available throughout.

The Mysterious Cave!! Hard to find for sure. We ask our guests if they found it during their stay. Few ever have done but this group did!

Rumour has it that it was actually this cave that Owain Glyndwr hid from the English one winter. Don't suppose we will ever know.

Will you be able to find it if you come to stay at Llanfendigaid?

Cadair Idris. Slightly exaggerated ridge by artist Richard Wilson. Painted way back in the 1700s.

Modern landscape painting seems to have been invented in Wales.

Richard Wilson of Penegoes near Machynleth, revolutionised art. Not only in Wales, but the whole of Britain.

Wilson is possibly the greatest Welsh artist of all time, and a major international figure. A national genius who became a hero and inspiration to great artists such as Turner and Constable.

I will be checking all the many paintings at Llanfendigaid for the Richard Wilson signature! 🙏

The Llwybr Cadfan Pilgrimage!

A 12 day hike with fantastic scenery in north Wales officially opened up in late 2024.

Tywyn marks the starting point at St Cadfan's church, a historical site dating from the 12th century. The church has the notable 7ft Cadfan stone (oldest recorded written Welsh words) along with an effigy known as the Crying Knight.

With the BBC's Pilgrimage programmes, more and more people are exploring such ancient pilgrimage routes and visiting old churches.

Day one passes by Llanfendigaid and ends up at the Grade 1 listed Llangelynin Old Church. Well worth a visit if you are staying at Llanfendigaid. Could be a fabulous wedding option??

The lovely seaside village of Aberdyfi (Aberdovey) is popular all year round due to its pretty buildings and spectacular surrounding scenery. It offers plenty of walking/hiking options, loads of watersports, a stunning links golf course, great beaches, fabulous shops, pubs, restaurants and a very warm local welcome.

Just 10 minutes on the coastline train from The Llanfendigaid Estate. A popular option for our guests is to get the train to Aberdyfi and then to walk back along the golden sandy beach to Tywyn. Then hop back on the train for 5 mins to Tonfanau Station (close to Llanfendigaid).

Hiraeth is a Welsh word that has no direct English translation. A homesickness for a home to which you cannot return. A feeling of longing and nostalgia. That goes beyond simply missing a place.

Are you Welsh and no longer living in Wales?

Come and stay in our stunning Shepherd Hut. Good mid-week availability over the next couple of months.

Our stunning three storey, Welsh Manor House. Initially built in the medieval period of the 13th century, renovated to its present design in 1746.

Previously owned by the renowned Welsh Nanney-Wynn family and their forebears, it has been given a Grade II* listing by Cadw.

This is only given to houses of exceptional historic interest. A very grand house, but very welcoming indeed.

Sleeping 18, it is a perfect holiday rental for groups of families and friends. Often booked out for wellness retreats too.
