Carreg Las is a 2 bedroom quarrymans miners cottage in the pretty village of Abergynolwyn, just with Carreg Las sleeps four in one twin, one double bedroom.
Whether you like beaches, walking, mountains or river swimming, this area of Wales is unparalled for its natural beauty and outdoor pursuits. Our cottage is situated within easy reach of days out at the beaches at Tywyn or Aberdovey, the challenge of climbing up Cader Idris or a ride on the narrow gauge mountain railway that runs through the village. Lovely walks go straight from the cottage door, and there are many sights and activites just a short drive away.
It's been a nice end to the week after a somewhat damp start.
We have just opened up some availability in January if you're looking to walk or cycle off any Christmas excesses.

It's been a beautiful spring day today and the fields are full of lambs
The weather has been a bit damp this week, but then there are days like this, just a week ago.
This is Barmouth, looking back down the Mawddach. It's about 25 mins drive or 15 minutes on the lovely coastal train from Tywyn.
Or, if you've got your walking boots with you, head out of the cottage, cross the stream and head for the hills. There's a path that will bring you all the way here, crossing the estuary at the railway bridge.

It's been blissful today, with snowdrops leading the charge into spring.
We're getting bookings for spring and summer now. 50% of our bookings for 2023 are guests who've stayed with us before.
Maybe it's because there's so much to see, like this cute ground frame box at Brynglas, a couple of stops down the line from us.
The trains are going to be quiet for a few weeks, but we're already taking bookings for the spring and summer, so why not come and stay in the cottage, in walking distance of the prettiest railway in Wales.
It's our final operating day today, and it looks like it will be a stunner! Lots of wintry sunshine to enjoy.
Three trains depart Wharf station 10:00, 11:45 and 13:30.
Our café, shop and museum are also open until 3pm.
After today we shut completely for some essential cleaning and maintenance - and re-open the café & shop on Monday 16th January. The next train services will be the 18-26th February.

We're closed for a couple of weeks for some pre-christmas renovations and we've replaced the front door!
The old one had done sterling service but was getting a little soggy around the edges. We're open for bookings through December, if you need a cosy escape.
We got a certificate 🙂
We received a perfect 10 in our guest reviews over the summer. We're closing soon for a few renovations, but have some availability closer to Christmas.
We grow the flowers for Carreg Las in our own garden. This week it's Zinnias, Nicotiana and the unusual Cerinthe and sweet peas too.

Beaches or castles? We may be in the mountains but we're a stone's throw from some amazing places to visit too.
We replaced the front gate today, having finally found an original Victorian one of the right width.
The trees in the woods above the Gwernol are out now and the paths are edged with bluebells. There's still very few people around despite this amazing weather.
We have late availability for the week of 7th to 14th May.
