MOUNTAIN SAFETY: THE HARSH TRUTH ⚠️

I promise im not on a rant again, but the increase in deaths & incidents recently in mountainous area needs to be addressed. I have also seen some disgusting comments on social media aimed at hikers who pose for a photo at the top of a summit - are we really at this point?

The brutal truth: Just because you’ve seen someone run across an Arete/ridge with ease or traverse a grade 1/2/3 like it’s a walk in the park, does not mean it’s easy! The people that do this have years of experience, and even then, it CAN go wrong - we appreciate that accidents can still happen no matter who it is!

What you see on social media is 1/1000th of what actually happened that day. People don’t show the hours of prep, the hours of route research, the hours of weather tracking - and of course the years of experience. This is why on social media, it looks easy - please don’t be fooled!

If just one person can be educated or made to think twice about their decisions before going out, then I will sleep easier!

Just because a specific route is trending on social media doesn’t mean it’s safe for you.

The mountains don’t care how many likes your adventure gets. They don’t care if you “felt fine” when you set out. Every year, people DIE because they were unprepared. Every year, mountain rescue teams risk their lives for preventable mistakes.

RESCUE TEAMS ARE VOLUNTEERS.
They leave their families at all hours to save people. Don’t make their job harder - be prepared.

This isn’t scaremongering, this is the harsh reality.

DO NOT BE THAT T**T WHO GOES OUT IN NIKE AIR MAX!!

At the end of the day, when all is said and done - we are all adults and we can all make decisions, please make sure it’s the right one that might save your life.

We are not political by any means on this page, but we are living in an age where life is tough and a lot of people are divided! We have the cost of living which is taking its toll on everyone and other issues this country is facing.

The National Parks and countryside of the UK are some of the only places left where we can unite, unwind and forget about the daily stresses of life - these are seriously under threat! ⚠️

The responsibility does not fall on the National Trust, Fix the Fells, Lake District Foundation or any other organisation - its falls on every single one of us!

I am someone who cannot stand being told what to do, but come on folks, it’s not difficult to follow a few rules to protect the outdoors. The increasing numbers of people who are enjoying the outdoors is amazing, but after seeing more and more disrespecting of these places is growing tiresome.

Everyone who visits these special places has a role to play in protecting spaces for all of us and future generations. Here’s how you can make a difference:

Take Your S**T Home – If you can be arsed to carry up bottles of beer, then you can carry it down when it’s empty - stop being lazy! The biggest misconception are orange peels and banana skins easily decompose - THEY DONT, STOP LEAVING YOUR S**T EVERYWHERE!

Stick to Designated Footpaths – Walking off the trail can destroy fragile ecosystems and causes damaging erosion.

Keep Dogs Under Control – Keep your dog on a lead around livestock and wildlife. Loose dogs can stress or harm animals, leading to unnecessary suffering.

No wildfires, No BBQs – Wildfires destroy habitats and can spread dangerously fast. Use designated areas instead!

Respect Local Communities – Stop parking like a tw@t! Don’t block driveways or gates and be considerate of those who live and work in these areas.

Leave It Better Than You Found It – If you see litter, why not pick it up? A small act makes a big difference.

⚠️ WEATHER WARNING - SUNDAY ⚠️

Happy Friday folks! The met office have issued some weather warnings for Sunday with potentially up to 70-80mph wind gusts on high ground.

On the second picture you will see a low pressure storm making its way East from the Atlantic with Southerly winds (hence why the temperatures have risen!)

Please be safe wherever you may be adventuring this weekend 🤘

Have you done the CMD Arete?

This has got to be one of our favourites! As far as aretes go, the CMD is not very technical (hence the grade 1 rating), but the view of Ben Nevis’ North face all the way round, certainly makes it one of the best in the UK 😍

GRASMERE CIRCULAR - GROUP HIKE 🚶🏻‍♂️

A lovely 7 mile around Rydal water and Grasmere! We started at the Pelter bridge car park, which lead us up to an obligatory stop at Rydal Cave (we had all to ourselves!).

Once at Grasmere, we of course made a stop for some Gingerbread - it fuelled the rest of our hike! The sun started to make an appearance and lit up the surrounding fells 😍

What a time to be alive!

A lovely 21 miler in the bank, guiding some fantastic people! Considering this is a long route, the laughter and smiles lasted all the way back to the car park!

PRIVATE GUIDING DAY - Coledale Horseshoe 🚶🏻‍♂️

Faheema booked in to celebrate her birthday on the legendary Coledale Horseshoe - what a way to spend it 😍

Even a bright little thing in the sky made an appearance, adding to the magic of this route.

Despite a little wind chill on the morning, it turned out quite lovely in the afternoon.

Thank you to our legendary Oli for guiding on this fantastic route 🤙🏼
