Catbells Sunrise | 9th November | Private Guiding Day ✨

It was a real pleasure to guide Michelle & team on a Catbells sunrise for Michelle’s 40th birthday - what a way to spend it 🎉

We started off in the pitch black fog, unfortunately with the high pressure system that’s lingering over us, we didn’t manage to catch the sun - but regardless of that, we had a lovely day that was full of laughs 😄

CLOUD INVERSION 📣

Wow! Friday’s inversion was something else 🫨

The last time I got one was around 6 years ago, since then I always kept missing them - until Friday, where I was greeted with this spectacle!

With this current high pressure system from the Atlantic, certain parts of the country have been getting inversions, typically in Snowdonia and the Highlands. Unfortunately the Lakeland fells haven’t been tall enough to breech the cloud!

I was deep in forecast research all last week on the the_mwis and on Friday, the forecast was looking like an inversion with a cloud top height of 800m.

I flew up Helvellyn (probably my quickest time yet) in the murky damp cloud, and suddenly I seen the clouds disperse and the warm sun hit my face 🌞

The pictures finally do it some justice 😍

As the guiding season starts to slow, I want to thank everyone who has joined us on a guided hike this year!

As someone who was never very good at socialising, I have realised that socialising is just a relative term - especially when you start to meet like-minded people who have a similar passion for the outdoors!

I have personally met and guided hundreds of fantastic people!

It still amazes me how we have so many returning clients, people that have now done their 10th hike with us! 👏🏼🫨

When we get pictures from clients who are starting to venture out solo after gaining confidence from our hikes - it really warms the heart ❤️

Please please please never stop exploring the outdoors 🏔️

The LD can chuck all kinds of weather at you, so this is what I usually pack, to prepare for all situations! (End of Summer - End of Autumn)

I would always advise taking a map & compass and being proficient with them (if hiking unguided)!

Pennine Way | 31st Oct | Private Guiding day ✨

Halloween Hike 🎃

Another cracking day! Well done to Will & Willow (the beautiful German shepherd) for tackling 10 miles of the Pennine Way.

Starting from Forest in Teesdale, we hiked on through the fields (having the odd stand off with herds of cows). We also came across this very strange barn that was all black in the middle of nowhere - little eerie! (Last pic)

Our first stop was the mighty Cauldron Snout, which is a waterfall located just underneath the reservoir.

We then continued onto to the dam bridge of Cow Green Resevoir, which was very eerie with the low cloud - making the start of a horror film! We took advantage of the low cloud and did some advanced nav training - Will smashed his bearings!

Yesterdays hike was something a little different from the usual, and it was throughly enjoyed!

An absolute pleasure to give Oli an ML refresher on the Eastern fells 🏔️

We covered all aspects of navigation, including contour following and micro navigation. We also added in the ropework syllabus and discussed what knots work best for different types of situations.

Good luck on your assessment Oli, you will smash it 🏔️
