Cold Water Therapy Sessions
Winter Safety Guidelines (Rules, Session Changes & Advice)

As we head into winter the risks of entering the water increases therefore I'm adding rules for all participants to follow before attending their first session and making a few changes to the events themselves. Please ensure you follow the rules so we can all participate with minimal risk and focus solely on the benefits of cold water.

1. Check with your doctor that the activity is safe for you
2. If you have not previously been in cold water during this winter acclimatise with some cold showers in the preceding weeks
3. If you are feeling unwell (lowered immune system, cold/flu, or similar) then please do not attend
4. All sessions will involve an initial walk to the site (not necessarily direct) in order to warm up the body
5. All sessions will be a single dip of no longer than 10 minutes
6. All sessions will take place in shallower water
7. All sites will be accessible and within max 20 minutes walk from facilities/help
8. All sessions will take place in the early afternoon (safer travel condition etc.)
9. Sessions will aim to last around one hour

Additional advice

a) bring a hot drink
b) have warm clothes to change into after the session (and a towel)
c) wear neoprene gloves and socks/boots
d) wear a woolly hat
e) bring a sweet treat
f) use a dry robe (warm changing robe)

Remember too that these sessions offer peer support so there will always be others to look after you during the activity. I also have unparalleled knowledge of viable locations within the Lake District. Sites we will visit are carefully selected and particularly during these colder months a number of additional safety factors will be considered when planning a session.

An extra walk will be offered (late morning for around 2 hours) specifically as a means to have an extensive warm-up. This could involve visiting some waterfalls and the exact details will be determined based on participants. If any partners/family/friends would like to attend but not join the cold water therapy session then this will be possible.

REMINDER Cold Water Therapy Session - This Saturday @ Rydal Hall

The forecast remains good for this weekend after all the recent wind and rain. This is a lovely place for swimming and dipping, perfect to unwind and destress after a hard week. All the sites will likely be available so we'll have excellent choice of some beautiful waterfall plunge pools.

We'll definitely dip in the lower woods and if the weather is nice and there is a good turnout I may offer extending to the pools higher up the valley.

If possible please provide confirmation of attendance via the event by 10pm the preceding evening but the small fee remains payable in person on the day.

Please allow plenty of time to park up and walk to the meeting place as this Saturday will likely be quite busy.

If you would be interested to attend a future Cold Water Therapy session in one of these locations over the winter please put a like against the specific comment (one location per comment). I shall add a selection of new and repeat options and I'll schedule new dates based on feedback.

For anyone unaware these sessions are short trips taking around 1.5 to 2 hours involving a short walk and a therapeutic dip in one or more plunge pools. They are specifically selected to be accessible to a wide range of people from non swimmers, to those recovering from illness/injury, or anyone just after a relaxing time.

Everyone is now aware of the benefits of cold water submersion and I hope these sessions will help with people's mental health, create a support network, and build people's confidence.

If you are yet to attend a session it may be worth contacting me if you wish to join an upcoming event to ensure your needs can be catered for and you can enjoy and benefit from the experience. To this end I'd also ask everyone to answer the questions on the event page, update their status prior to the day, and say hello in the messenger group (you will be added).
